After some brief discussion a motion was made by Commissioner Charlie Leggett to lower Lake Mayers to the 204-foot level starting in mid October and maintain until January 15, 2012. Commissioner Ronnie Rentz made a second to the motion. The motion was approved by a split vote with Leggett, Rentz, Boatright and Wilkerson voting in favor. Commissioner Jasper Tomberlin voted against the measure.
Other business
County Manager Lee Lewis gave an update on the Zoar Road Bridge bid information. Lewis stated that the cost of the engineering plans completed by Southern Concrete would cost eight percent of the total building cost or around $51,460. With the additional cost being added to the other bids the low bid was Southern Concrete for $698,650. A motion was made by Rentz to accept the low bid from Southern Concrete with a second being made by Leggett. The motion carried with Wilkerson abstaining. Work is scheduled to begin in the immediately.
A motion was made by Rentz to abandon a section of Cleve Eunice Road that serves no public interest. A second was made by Leggett with the motion being approved by all commissioners.
Only one bid was submitted for the parking lot addition to be located at the site of the old Bedingfield building. The bid was from Joey Hiers Construction for $37,365.10. The amount was for paving the area only. A motion was made by Leggett to accept the bid for paving and to bid out work for landscaping. A second was made by Wilkerson. The motion was approved with Tomberlin voting against.
A motion was made by Boatright to allow the City of Surrency and City of Graham to be included in the County’s contract with Sullivan Environmental due to the increase of the price for those residents. A second was made Tomberlin with the motion being approved with none opposed.
Budget transfers from the end of the 2011 fiscal year to the 2012 budget were approved unanimously.
Tommy Davis shared information with the commissioners about the condition of Hill Top Road. Davis stated that work would have to be done to repair parts of the road that have started to crack open.
