The News-Banner has received notification from Appling HealthCare System that cuts have been made by the hospital system in a number of areas including staffing. The system issued the following announcement regarding the cut backs:

“Recently Appling HealthCare System was evaluated by two different companies who compared us to the national standards in the areas of staffing and productivity. Both companies returned similar results and recommendations. Appling HealthCare System has since started focusing more closely on aligning its staffing to its patient volumes. Since patient volumes vary, the organization’s staffing varies. Appling HealthCare System is now staffing according to the needs and number of patients seeking its services.”
According to CEO Dale Spell the system laid off a total of 29 FTEs. Spell stated that it is regretful, but stressed that during these tough economic conditions this move was unavoidable.
