The first score of the night came at the 5:53 mark in the first quarter of play when Devontae Wilkerson capped a 47-yard drive by the Pirates with an end around play for a score. Following a penalty that backed the point after attempt (PAT) up to make it a 35-yard attempt, the PAT was no good making the score 6-0.
Later in the first quarter with just 1:55 remaining, Pirate kicker Israel Jaramillo booted a 28-yard field goal through the uprights to make the score 9-0 and the score would remain unchanged throughout the remainder of the quarter.
At the 9:21 mark in the second quarter, Pirate QB Lashune Moore connected with receiver Jordan Vann on a 19-yard touchdown pass play for another Pirate touchdown. Vann made a spectacular diving catch in the end zone. The PAT was good and the score at this point was 16-0.
Just before halftime, Vann intercepted a MCA pass and ran the ball approximately 80 yards down the field for yet another Pirate touchdown. The PAT was good and the score with just 31 seconds remaining in the half was 23-0.
During halftime Celecca Fedrick was crowned the 2011 Homecoming Queen. Others in the court included Marsha Austin, Olivia Brantley, Andreanna Carson, Taylor Dominy, Jessica Dowdney, Brittany Jordan, Haley Simmons, Haleigh Taylor and Harley Thompson.
The second half of play was much like the first. The Pirates dominated the Buccaneers the remainder of the game with solid defense and offense.
In the third quarter, Jaramillo kicked another field goal at the 5:14 mark to make the score 26-0.
The final score of the evening came late in the fourth quarter (1:42 remaining) when freshman Pirate runner Chris James darted 10 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was no good and the final score was 32-0.
There were some outstanding plays on both sides of the ball during the game from Pirate players. Vann had a total of three interceptions including one he ran back for a touchdown, Byron Buxton booted a 71-yard punt and CJ Nails had several huge sacks on Bucs QB Bradley Thomas just to name a few.
The Pirates will be on the road this week against the Tattnall County Battle Creek Warriors. Tattnall will be a tough opponent for the Pirates as they are 2-1 in region play. Fans are urged to support the Pirates on the road this week.
