Alton L. Sease died Thursday, September 15, 2011. Mr. Sease was born in Baxley Sept. 1, 1946 to the late Albert Lewis Sease and the late Essie Lee Ogden Sease. Alton attended the schools in Appling County and graduated in 1964 from the Appling County Consolidated High School. Alton enlisted in the United States Army July 2, 1964. He received an honorable discharge June 14, 1967. While serving his country he became an expert marksman and received the National Defense Service medal. Shortly after his discharge Alton moved to Buffalo, NY and went to work for General Mills, where he retired after 40 years of service.
Big Al, Sease, Preacher and Monk were all names that were used to describe a fun loving guy who truly loved and enjoyed life to its fullest. His passions were spending time with his grandchildren, fishing on the boat, entertaining his family and friends with bar-b-ques, fish fries, watching HBOs boxing matches, reading, cooking or just hanging out in the Man Cave. Alton was an avid gardener, collector of gadgets and cared deeply for his community and the people living in the community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a creative spirit that he displayed through his beautiful garden. Alton was a handyman that was great with his hands and took pride in working on his home projects. He was well known for his playful nature.
Survivors include his daughter, Letichia Sease of Conyers; two sons, Robert (Tameka) Sease of Loganville and Burt Williams of Buffalo, NY; two sisters, Sarah (Richard) McCall and Annie Doris Sease, both of Baxley; one brother, John L. (Christine) Sease of Baxley; three aunts, Marie Ellis of Baxley, Addie Sumner Ogden of Decatur and Gladys Ogden of Buffalo, NY; one uncle, John Ogden of Baxley; four grandchildren, Dominique Sease, Robert Maurice Sease II, Jasmine Ariel Sease and Julian Myles Sease; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many special friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 from Rachel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kendall Bennamon officiating and Minister Romanita Bennamon presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors. The United States Army Honor Guard of the Ft. Stewart Army Base served as honorary escorts.
Active pallbearers were James Cash, Adrian McCall, Dominique Sease, Marquel Gibbs, Wilma McTier and Bud Thomas.
Musical selections were rendered by Gwen Ryals, Carletha Wright and the church choir.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
