Homecoming Week at ACHS kicked off Monday, October 3 as spirit week began. Students are participating in dress up days, the spirit chain competition and class float competition.
On Thursday, October 6 at 9:30 am, the school will honor the Grand Marshal, Mrs. Janice Harrelson, as well as the Homecoming Court, at a pep rally. The community and school will then unite on Thursday afternoon for the annual homecoming parade at 5:30. The parade will begin at the red light of Martin Luther King Avenue and end at the hospital. All entries should be turned in to Appling County High School.
For more information, contact Rebecca Glenn at 367-8610. Homecoming activities will conclude on Friday night when the Pirates take on the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers. Students will then enjoy the Homecoming dance at the high school cafeteria.
About Harrelson
Janice was born in Appling County to Marjorie and the late R.L. Carter. She is the proud wife of Weldon Harrelson and mother of two girls, Regina and Kim, both of Duncan, South Carolina. She is called Gran by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is step mom to three children, and step Gran to six grandchildren.
Janice attended Appling County High School and Altamaha Technical College. She has worked in the Appling County School system for 10 years. All 10 years have been at Appling County High School.
Janice is a Christian woman who seeks to serve God in her daily life. She attends and is a member of the Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church.
Janice stated, “It is an honor to have been chosen by my fellow workers and friends at Appling County High School and to serve as this year’s Grand Marshal in the Appling County Homecoming Parade.”
Again, the parade will begin at the intersection of Golden Isles Parkway and Martin Luther King Drive. ***Please note that the parade will end at the intersection of Main Street and Tollison Street, but pickup will take place at the Appling County High School parking lot. Participants will continue to ACHS once the parade has ended where they will unload. There will be NO loading or unloading at Appling HealthCare (hospital) this year in case of a medical emergency.
Also, all participants please enter the lineup area by turning onto Oak Street from the Golden Isles Parkway. The lineup numbers begin on Oak Street, right onto Industrial Drive, and then right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Please make sure and enter this way to keep traffic moving in the right direction. Lineup will begin at 4:45 p.m.
