Appling County School System is extremely pleased to announce that one of its parents, Danita Hayes, has been chosen to serve on the State School Superintendents Parent Advisory Council! Parent representatives were nominated by principals from each of our six schools in Appling County. These names were sent in for review at the district level. All nominations were outstanding and would have made excellent representatives at the state level.
Superintendent Scarlett Copeland reported that Hayes was chosen from Appling County’s representative to be forwarded to the state for consideration. Hayes received notification on September 26 that she had been selected as one of 30 parents across the state of Georgia by State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge.
In Dr. Barge’s congratulatory letter, he stated, “I know that parents are their child’s first teachers and have a wealth of information to share with educators about their students. I greatly value your ideas and opinions and look forward to discussing ways in which we can increase parent and family engagement to ensure success for all students.”
“Hayes will be an excellent ambassador for Appling County School System and we look forward to her serving in this capacity,” stated Superintendent Copeland. “She will join 29 other parents across our state on October 21, 2011, January 19, 2012, and May 3, 2012. The information gained at these meetings in Atlanta will be redelivered to the superintendent, principals, leadership teams, and schools here in Appling County. This will be a wonderful partnership for our county and the state.”
