Godfrey gives report of recent police incidents
The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On January 23, answered a call to a West Wood Apartment in reference to the resident being unresponsive. On arrival officers met with the EMS unit and the coroner who related the resident a Sherry Branch, 35, had died sometime during the night.
Jan. 23 at approx. 3:50 p.m., met with a complaint at the Mi Sombrero in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his vehicle and removed a Remington .270 caliber short mag rifle.
Jan. 23 at approx. 5:47 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told officers that a subject had got an item and left without paying for it. After a description of the suspect and vehicle Rocky Wayne Jacobs, 25, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with one count theft by shoplifting. The stolen item was recovered and returned back to the store.
Jan. 24 at approx. 2:40 p.m., answered a call to the front lot of the police department to a person under the influence. On arrival officers inquired to the condition of the person when she became agitated and abusive toward the officers. After the subject was detained a small Tylenol bottle containing an assortment of pills was seized. Arrested in connection with this incident was Rachel Lynn Fowler, 39, of St. Mary’s on one count public intoxication and pills not in their original container.
Jan. 27 at approx. 11:46 a.m., met with a resident at a N. Main Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while he was gone person(s) unknown entered his home and removed a 19-inch LCD high definition flat screen T.V.
Jan. 28 at approx. 1:44 a.m., answered a call to the Appling Healthcare System in reference to a theft. The complainant told officers that persons unknown had removed her wallet from her pocketbook. After reviewing video footage from the area a Rocky Wayne Jacobs, 25, of Baxley, was charged with theft by taking in connection with this theft.
Jan. 29 at approx. 4:57 p.m., answered a call to Sursson Street in reference to an unresponsive person lying in the road. On arrival officers found a male subject lying face down on the pavement, who was unresponsive to them. The EMS unit was called to the scene where the subject a Billy Gene Rogers, 55, of Baxley, was transported to the Appling Healthcare System for medical treatment.
Jan. 30 at approx. 12:55, answered a call to a 1st Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the complainant who told them that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed a PSP, a DSI, five video games and some half dollar coins.
Jan. 31 at approx. 1:40 p.m., stopped a vehicle for a seat belt violation, which led to the seizure of a small amount of marijuana. Arrested in connection with this incident was Misty Ann Creamer, 29, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of seatbelt violation, and possession of marijuana.
Feb. 3 at approx. 6:00 p.m., met with a complainant at the Church of Christ in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the church and removed his Compaq lap top computer.
Feb. 4 at approx. 4:20 p.m., met with a complainant at the police station in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had took her pocketbook out of her book bag at the high school. The complainant stated the missing pocketbook is described as being purple in color, with a flower on the front and it has zebra stripes and she was also missing an Ipod Fourth Generation in a black sparkling case.
Feb. 7 at approx. 6:06 a.m., met with a complainant at the Appling County Elementary School in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the school, and rummaged through several classrooms and desks. Reported missing was some loose change, a yellow and black flashlight, a Nikon cool pix L16 digital camera, a Nikon cool Pix L11 digital camera and two SD cards, a gold and silver watch, a MP3 player, a hammer, and a black bag containing two portable C.D. players.
Feb. 9 at approx. 11:47 a.m., met with a complainant at the Huddle House parking area in reference to an accident. On arrival the complainant told officers that he had accidentally struck a light pole, doing damage to his truck. No damage was observed to the pole.
Feb. 9 at approx. 1:40 p.m., stopped a vehicle on North Boulevard for possible dark tinted windows violation. When the driver exited the vehicle he starting yelling I ain’t done nothing wrong, and then took off on foot, only to be taken into custody after a short foot chase by police officers and Appling County deputies. Arrested in connection with this incident was Christopher Lamont Jones, 26, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of driving while license suspended, obstruction of a police officer and possession of crack cocaine.
