William Henry Hand, Sr., 68, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Hand was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and was born Dec. 4, 1942 to the late Gilman Hand and the late Annie May Johnson Hand. He was a retired equipment operator for Rayonier. Mr. Hand was preceded in death by a son, David Earl Hand and a brother, Donnie Hand.
Survivors include his wife, Nera K. Hand of Baxley; two daughters, Pam Parker of Cordelle and Linda Gale Rowe of Graham; four sons, William Hand, Jr., Lamar Hand, Ricky Hampton and Donnie Hampton, all of Baxley; four sisters, Billie Sue Davis of Baxley, Mary Moore and Annie Ruth Crews, both of Nahunta and Linda Smith of Jesup; one brother, Dennis Hand of Brunswick; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Andrew Kersey, Barry Teutsch and Lamar Lee officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Chris Medders, Billy Crews, Jr., Carl Kersey, Timmy Davis, Darrell Hand and David Garrett.
Musical selections were rendered by Sandra Nettles.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
