The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.
On Sept. 6 at approximately 3:10 p.m., met with the resident at a Colonial Drive address in reference to damage to property. On arrival the resident told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown had damaged her mailbox by knocking it off the post.

Sept. 6 at approx. 7:43 p.m., met with a complainant at a SW Park Avenue address in reference to entering an auto incident. On arrival the complainant told officers that he observed four young males enter a tractor on the corner of S.W. Park Avenue and Beach Street and then they fled the area on foot. A short investigation led to four individuals being detained, where they were identified as the ones entering the tractor. Arrested in connection with this incident was Latrez R. Reddish, 18, of Baxley on charges of one count each entering auto and giving false statements. Also arrested was Jeremy Albert Smith, 19, Jeremiah Jones, 17, and Samuel Thomas Adams, 21, all of Baxley, on charges of one count each of entering auto.
Sept. 7 at approx. 6:00 a.m., met with a complainant at Krazy Kars in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed several cases of drinks, which were stacked outside the business. Investigation revealed that earlier in the night the Appling County Deputies had stopped a van and its occupants for an unrelated traffic violation and discovered several cases of drinks inside the van. Further investigation revealed that the drinks in the van were the same ones taken from the above location. Arrested in connection with this incident was Willie Jones, 46, and Gregory Lamar Byrd, 42, both of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by taking.
Sept. 7 at approx. 4:05 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the LPC officer told the officers, they had discovered some items missing from a display and upon investigation discovered that three females had cut the restraining cords and removed a car seat and stroller from its display and further had put a small child in the stroller and walked out without paying for it. The stroller is a Disney brand.
Sept. 10 at approx. 10:36 a.m., met with a complainant at the C&L Gifts and Jewelry store in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown had removed a white oval bathtub, which was behind the store.
Sept. 11 at approx. 3:36 p.m., met with a resident at a Pine Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person unknown had removed two bikes from his yard. One was a gray mountain bike and the other one was a pink and blue small girl’s bike with a white seat.
Sept. 12 at approx. 11:00 a.m., met with a complainant at a Jones Street address in reference to an abuse of a disabled person. On arrival the complainant told officers that she had went by to check on the welfare of the lady who was staying at the address with some other people, because she was handicapped and unable to care for herself. On her arrival she discovered that there was no running water and no lights in the house. The lady was very upset, due to no one being with her and her medication, which was supposed to keep cool and she was afraid to use it since the power was off. The victim stated she gets some money every month, which she gives to her caretakers, to take care of her. After investigation by officers the workers from the adult protective services warrants were issued for the arrest of Jackie Ray Strickland, 40, and Melanie Herrington, 47, both of Baxley, on charges of one count each unlawful act under the family violence act. The victim was placed into a friendly environment where she will be taken care of.
Sept. 14 at approx. 5:02 p.m., met with a resident at a Pendleton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed a fish aquarium, two gold fish, two boxes of shoes, two boxes of pocket books, along with two bikes, a Huffy and a BMX.
Sept. 14 at approx. 6:55 p.m., answered a call to the car wash on South Main Street in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival officers discovered a male subject wandering around intoxicated. Upon
detaining him for investigative purposes officers seized a pill bottle with an assortment of pills in it. Daniel Richard Wood, 37, of Winter Haven, Fla., was placed under arrest for one count for public indecency and pills not in the original container.
Sept. 14 responded to a Troup Street address in reference to a man being in her daughter’s bedroom without any clothes on. On arrival the resident told officers that she was awaken by her daughter screaming and went to see what was going on and discovered a man in her daughter’s room with his pant’s down and him saying was going to have sex with somebody tonight. The subject was forced away by the mother who had a baseball bat, at which time he left the resident. The resident was able to tell the officers who the man was and where he lived. After making sure the residents were safe and secure the officers left and went to the man’s resident where he was taken into custody without incident. When the subject was being taken into custody and during a pat down for officer’s safety a small amount of marijuana was seized. Arrested in connection with this incident was Calvin Jackson, 52, of Baxley, on charges of one count each burglary, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana.
