The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
Aug. 3 at approximately 2:57 a.m., answered a call to a Clay Homes Apartment address in reference to a domestic disturbance. On arrival officers discovered that an argument had turned physical with one of the parties being struck in the face area by another party at the apartment. Arrested in connection with this incident was Dwayne Washington, 45, of Baxley, on charges of one count simple battery under the family violence act.

Aug. 4 at approx. 8:00 a.m., responded to Signs of the Times in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown had broken into the business and removed a cash drawer with an undetermined amount of currency and change along with three aluminum signs, which were green in color, approx. 26"X 43" and had the wording, Peoples State Bank Lodge on them.
Aug. 5 at approx. 2:46 p.m., met with the resident at a First Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed a DVD and VCR from the entertainment center in the living room.
Aug. 5 at approx. 2:55 p.m., answered a call to Rent Town in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a store employee that related that they were missing several items from inventory. After a brief investigation Stacy Flowers, 38, of Baxley, was charged with one count theft by deception in connection with this incident.
Aug. 5 at approx. 5:59 p.m., assisted agents of the Altamaha Drug Task Force and deputies from the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to serve a search warrant at Venus Mims’ residence on a Creosote Road address.
Aug. 6 at approx. 6:41 a.m., answered a call to Carver’s Minit Mart in reference to a burglary. On arrival the owner showed officers to the rear of the store where person(s) unknown had busted out some of the concrete blocks to gain entry into the store. Once inside the store four electronic playing gaming machines were broken into and the monies removed.
Aug. 7 at approx. 1:42 p.m., met with a resident at the Westwood Apartment Complex in reference to vandalism. On arrival the resident showed officers to her car, a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville where person(s) unknown had put peanut butter on the hood.
Aug. 7 at approx. 11:32 p.m., assisted deputies in the arrest of a subject that was being verbal and combative and refusing to obey their lawful orders. After being warned several times to comply the subject had to be tased to bring him into compliance. Arrested in this incident was Steven Dwayne Pearsey of Baxley.
Aug. 8 at approx. 1:10 p.m., met with a complainant at the police station in regards to a theft. The complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had got a hold of some of his personal checks and were passing them around town. After an investigation the identity of the person passing the checks was discovered to be a person who was staying with the complainant. The complainant was advised to contact the magistrate court for further prosecution.
Aug. 8 at approx. 5:02 p.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival the clerk told officers that some subjects had removed several items from the store without paying for them and was still in the parking lot. Officers confronted the subjects, where they were detained for further investigative purposes. After a brief investigation the items were recovered and released back to the store. Arrested in connection with this incident was Celetia Tawnya Fletcher, 29, of Baxley on one count theft by shoplifting and Nicole Nobles, 27, of Vidalia, on one count each of theft by shoplifting and one count driving without a valid driving license.
Aug. 11 at approx. 6:06 p.m., met with a complainant at Merle Norman in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was inside person(s) unknown stole her 1999 Chevy Tahoe. The Tahoe was described as silver gray in color, and was bearing a GA license BRM6869. The vehicle was entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen. On Aug. 16 the missing vehicle was found abandoned at the Town- n-Country shopping center, where it was returned to its owner.
Aug. 13 at approx. 1:43 a.m., answered a call to Baxley Food Mart in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival officers discovered that the subject was intoxicated and run his vehicle hot. While officers were investigating it was discovered that the driver, Lee Wade Cook, 22, of Douglas, was too impaired to drive and had suspended driver’s license. Cook was transported to the detention center on charges of one count each of driving with suspended driver’s license and driving under the influence. After further investigation it was discovered that the vehicle a 1991 Toyota truck, white in color, had been reported stolen from a convenience store in Alma. Cook was released on bond to the authorities in Alma, in connection with the vehicle theft.
Aug. 13 at approx. 10:30 a.m., met with a complainant at an East Parker Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed several items from his building. Reported missing are a D-7 Caterpillar engine, an overhead crane and several empty metal drums, along with an amount of copper wire.
Aug. 13 at approx. 8:18 p.m., met with the resident at a Lackawanna Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed her City of Baxley trash can.
Aug. 17 at approx. 1:40 p.m., met with city workers at an Anthony Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival it was learned that the seal on the water meter had been removed. After an investigation Alan Lee Wright, 51, of Baxley, was cited for one count theft of services.
Aug. 19 at approx. 8:50 a.m., met with a complainant at Krazy Kars in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had entered the business and cut the copper wires off his welder, along with removing a 32-inch Visio flat screen TV. On Aug. 19 the copper wire matching the wire stolen was sold to a local company. Further investigation led to the arrest of James Barney, 61, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by receiving stolen property.
Aug. 19 at approx. 9:45 a.m., met with a resident at a Norman Circle address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed several items from an outbuilding. Reported missing was electric generator, a Steel brand chainsaw, an Echo brand chainsaw and a black in color, tool set.
Aug. 25 at approx. 7:40 p.m., met with a resident at a Moody Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his home and removed a Panasonic 37-inch TV and a Timex wrist watch. The TV has been entered on the GCIC network as stolen.
Aug. 26 at approx. 8:29 a.m., met with city workers at the Water Park in reference to vandalism. On arrival the workers showed officers to one of the bathrooms handrails, which had been damaged, also to a mess on the floor area and in the toilet.
Aug. 27 at approx. 2:34 p.m., met with a complainant at the Appling Healthcare System in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that some people had seen a white male driving a white car pull up beside her vehicle and take a red gas can that was full, from the trailer.
Aug. 30 at approx. 8:12 a.m., met with a complainant at the Browsin’ Hut in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown keep taking her signs form her business. The complainant stated she had to replace the sign several times.
Aug. 30 at approx. 4:06 p.m., answered a call to the Goodwill Store in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk who told the officers a subject had removed several items and left without paying for them. The clerk gave the officers a description of the subject and the vehicle she was in and a lookout was posted to other units. The vehicle was located a short distance from the store on Parker Street, where it was stopped and the driver was detained. After a brief investigation the missing items were recovered and returned back to the store. Arrested in connection with this theft was Melinda Charmin Dixon, 28, of Hazlehurst, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Aug. 31 at approx. 10:28 a.m., met with a resident at a Bryant Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a five-foot tall, brown and orange in color, toolbox from his residence.
Chief Godfrey would like to ask that if anyone has any information about these crimes or any other crimes to please contact the Baxley Police Department, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, the GA Bureau of Investigation or the Altamaha Drug Task Force.
