The Appling County Pirates traveled to neighboring Wayne County (0-1-1) to face the Yellow Jackets on Friday, September 2. The Pirates were able to overcome a 9-18 halftime deficit to defeat the Yellow Jackets 35-25. With the win the Pirates improve to 2-0 on the 2011 season and will travel to face the Trojans of Coffee County (2-1) on Friday, September 9 in the Pirates final non-region contest of the season. The Pirates will start Region 2AA play the following week as they host the Brantley County Herons (0-2). Both the games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Scoring recap
The first score of the contest came after a bad snap by the Pirates on a punt attempt that had the Jackets tackle a Pirate in the end-zone for a safety to make the score 0-2.
The Jackets were able to get good field position after the free kick and wasted no time scoring with a 41-yard touchdown pass to make the score, with the extra point, 0-9.
The next score came on a seven-yard touchdown run by the Jackets making the score 0-15, with the two point attempt being no good.
The Pirates were to able to get their first score of the contest on a 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lashune Moore to Justin Javis. The extra point attempt would be no good due to a fumble on the snap making the score 6-15.
The Jackets would add a field goal on their next drive to make the score 6-18.
The Pirates would answer with a 26-yard field goal by Israel Jaramillo to make the score at halftime 9-18.
The Pirates started the second half with a scoring drive that would start at their own 25 and end with a five-yard touchdown run by CJ Nails making the score, with the two point attempt being no good, 15-18.
The Pirates would later score on a three-yard pass from Moore to Byron Buxton making the score after the extra point by Jaramillo 21-18. The score was set up by a long pass play from Moore to Javis.
The Jackets answered with a long drive ending in a one-yard touchdown run making the score with the extra point 21-25.
The Pirates would answer with a long drive of their own ending with a five-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Buxton making the score after the extra point 28-25.
The final score of the contest came after a bad snap on a punt by the Jackets was recovered at the one-yard line by Kody Nail. After a few penalties the Pirates would score on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Moore to C.J. Alexander making the final score with the extra point 35-25.
