Doris Irene Rentz Carter, 89, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Appling Healthcare System. Mrs. Carter was born Dec. 8, 1921 in Appling County to the late Robert William and Mildred Mary Ann Mann Rentz. She was a member of the Memorial Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Doris was retired from Georgia Baptist Children’s Home with 28 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Clennon Carter, and two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Connie Carter, Ronald and Mary Ann Carter, all of Hazlehurst and Mark and Rhonda Carter of Baxley; one sister, Geraldine Morris of Macon; one brother, Herbert Rentz of Baxley; four grandchildren, Clint Carter, Wren Browning, Blake Carter, Brent Carter and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Ronnie Rentz and Virgil Carter officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James Rentz, Terry Rentz, Buddy Carter, Kenneth Rentz, Jeff Morris, Thom Spratling, Warren Rentz, Chris Rentz, Jarvis Brannen and Rodney Brannen.
Honorary pallbearers were Eulee Page, Larry and Janie Britt, Denise Lane, Mildred Butler, Inez Turner, Phyllis Williams, Wayne and Grace Eicher, Alice Coleman, Gwen Reese, Dr. Errol Graham, Margaret Gilbert, Wanda and Jim Powell, Ima Dean Sapp, and all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Freda Jones, Curtis McMillan and the congregation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
