Pauline Hartley Smith, 77, died Thursday, August 25, 2011. Pauline was born Nov. 2, 1933 to the late Daniel Harvey Hartley and the late Mattie Estell Gordon Hartley. She was a member of the Baxley Church of God where she was a member of the ladies ministries, Young at Heart and the 55 Club. Mrs. Smith won the hearts of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Smith, a granddaughter, Jill Smith and a sister, Vonice Deen.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Whitaker; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Ann Smith and Danny and Gail Smith, all of Baxley; two sisters, Bonnell (Gene) Doyle and Lucille Perry, all of Baxley; three brothers, Eddie (Ann) Hartley of Lyons, Lamar (Frankie) Hartley of Jacksonville, FL and Stoney Hartley of Baxley; grandchildren, Jeremy and Dana Smith, Rachel and Bobby Edenfield, Aaron and April Smith and Jordan Wainwright; and great-grandchildren, Kellyn and Anna Klare Smith, Noah, Sadie and Lennox Smith, Ty Gilliard, Isaac Edenfield, Jake Edenfield and Ben Wainwright.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27 at Baxley Church of God with the Revs. Lamar Lee and David Price officiating. Interment followed in Deen’s Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Smith, Aaron Smith, Jordan Wainwright, Bobby Edenfield, Andy Hartley and Rusty Hallman.
Honorary pallbearers were Appling County High School Baseball team and coaches and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class of Baxley Church of God.
Musical selections were rendered by Kim White, Robbie Tomberlin, Javan Anderson, Lamar Lee and Baxley Church of God Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
