Dear Editor and to the citizens of Baxley, Mayor and City Council,
We all need to be proud of and give thanks to the firefighters that protect our property and lives in this area. These volunteers are professional, and I mean very professional.
On a recent fire in a very large house at the corner of Blackshear Highway and Satilla Church Road their professional abilities were demonstrated well in the manner they contained and controlled the fire.
I’m a retired firefighter with the Atlanta Fire Department with 32 years experience. Paid professional firefighters do not always hold volunteer firefighters in the same status as themselves. I will tell you that no paid professional firefighter could have performed in any manner better than the Baxley Fire Department did at this incident.
We should especially thank them for the time that they have given studying, training and preparing to reach this level of professionalism.
D. E. (Gene) Sparks,
Retired Assistant Chief
City of Atlanta Fire Bureau
