Mrs. Corine Carter Allen, 84, died August 15, 2011 at Hospice Satilla House, Inc. in Waycross. She was born March 2, 1927 in Fairhope, Alabama to the late Marion Carter, Sr. and the late Sallie Coleman Carter.
Mrs. Allen was the wife of the late Joseph Oscar Allen. She was a dedicated member of Scott’s Chapel United Methodist Church, one of the founding members of Gardenia Social Club, Progressive Charity Club, and Ida Mae Chapter #299 Order of the Eastern Star, Girls Social Club and the Pierce County Senior Citizens Service Center. She received her education in the Pierce County School System.
Mrs. Allen created loving and happy memories with family and friends and will be missed by so many.
She is survived by her three sons, Samuel (Sandra) Allen of Valdosta, Joseph (Susan) Allen of Athens and George Allen; daughter of her husband, Sallie Allen McLendon of Blackshear; three sisters, Ruby L. Dale of Fairhope, AL, Bettye (Harold) Waller of Trenton, NJ and Bobbie (Roosevelt) Burks of St. Mary’s; two brothers, Calvin (Georgian) Carter of Hinesville and Felton (Margaret) Carter of Conley; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Carter of Blackshear and Mary Louise Carter of St. Mary’s; grandchildren: George, Jr., Jessica, Gershom, Cristen, Courtney, Sydney, Kenneth, Myra, Nadine, Gary, Eric, Bryan, Reginald, Rodney, Alton, Hicks and Phillip; one god-son, Benjamin Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 18 at Scott’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Ellis C. Jackson presiding. Interment followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Blackshear.
Active pallbearers were Roosevelt Burks, Jr., Herman Lincoln, Ron Roizer, Carlton Jenkins, Terence Lott and Willie Weatherspoon.
Musical selections were rendered by Bethel C.M.E. Church Choir.
