County officials informed of closures
The Appling County Board of Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 1 at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting the commissioners were informed by County Manager Lee Lewis of the closing of the PET Processing Plant located on Red Oak Road on March 31. Lewis also informed the commissioners of the closing of the bridge on Zoar Road effective February 2. Lewis stated he would be contacting the Georgia Department of Transportation who has been planning to replace the bridge.
Other business
The commissioners approved a RLF Disbursement loan being made by the Development Authority of Appling County for the amount of $220,000.00 for a blueberry plant to be constructed by BCRS, LLC in the industrial park. The motion to acknowledge the loan was made by commissioner Theodore Wilkerson with commissioner Jasper Tomberlin seconding. The motion carried unanimously.
The commissioners approved the annual renewal for the liability insurance for volunteer firefighters. The cost of the insurance will be decreasing by around $10.00. A motion to approve the insurance was made by commissioner Ronnie Rentz with a second being made by commissioner Charlie Leggett. The motion was approved by all commissioners in attendance.
The commissioners approved a request to use county property for the “Peaches to Beaches” yard sale scheduled to be held on March 11 and 12.
Information was given to the commissioners on the bridge repair on Pratt Hutto Road with the safety rails being installed.
Lewis informed the commissioners that the information for the upcoming SPLOST has been sent to the state and it will appear on the March 15 ballot.
