Appling Deputies have busy week
According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach, on February 2 thirty-three vehicles located in the city and county were entered into. Items were stolen from some of the vehicles and also some were damaged by trying to pry into them. Warrants have been secured on Phillip Laquan Johnson, age 19, of Waycross. Investigation indicated more people are involved in the burglaries. Appling County Investigators are working closely with Ware County, Pierce County and Charlton County with similar incidents.
Jan. 27, answered a call to Wayne Jones Road in reference to dogs being shot. A complainant stated two of her dogs were shot by her neighbor. The neighbor stated complainant’s dogs were in his yard being aggressive around him and his child, and in order to protect himself and his child, he shot the dogs.
Jan. 27, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report harassment. A complainant stated she has received harassing messages on her cell phone.
Jan. 28, a routine check on a parking lot at the Appling County Recreation Department resulted in the arrest of Kayley D. Carter, age 17, Shannon Leonia Vanness, age 26, and Maci Marie Hutcheson, age 18, all of Baxley. The group was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug related object.
Jan. 28, answered a call to George Craven Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated several items valued at $2,500.00 were taken from his pack house. Investigation continues.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Spring Branch Road in reference to a domestic. A boyfriend and girlfriend had a dispute.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Graham Church of God in reference to a brush fire. The brush fire got away from a subject and the siding on the church was damaged. Graham Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Pendleton Street in reference to a child custody dispute. The subject stated the father of a child would not bring the child for the mother’s visitation. The subject was advised this is a civil matter and could possibly secure contempt action.
Jan. 29, answered a call to MLK Drive in reference to threats. A complainant stated he has been receiving threatening messages on his cell phone.
Jan. 29, a routine traffic stop on Surrson Street resulted in the arrest of Norris Gibbs, age 53, of Baxley. Gibbs was charged with VGCSA/cocaine, DUI and driving while license suspended.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Appling Emergency Room in reference to a dirt bike accident that occurred on Henry Thomas Road. The driver of the bike received a broken leg.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Thornton Road in reference to an assault. A complainant stated a subject hit him in the face and took his wallet. Rocky Wayne Jones, age 25, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with robbery.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Bud Miles Road in reference to a domestic. A boyfriend and girlfriend were having a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. Jeremy Brad Nail, age 33, of Baxley was arrested and charged with battery.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Dunn’s Lake Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated several car parts, valued at $4,050.00 had been taken from behind his residence. Investigation revealed Justin Hotchkiss, age 18, of Baxley, had taken the items. Hotchkiss was arrested and charged with theft. Investigation continues on other possible suspects.
Jan. 31, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft on Nails Ferry Road. A complainant stated she left her pocket book in her vehicle while at church. When she looked in her pocketbook she found her wallet missing.
Jan. 31, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a forgery. The complainant stated checks had been written from his bank account that was not his. The complainant had gone to his bank for affidavits. Investigation continues.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Clements Lane in reference to threats. Two subjects had a dispute and one of the subjects left and stated he would return with a knife.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to a home invasion. An unknown subject pried open the back door of the residence and entered the residence when meeting an occupant of residence. The subject then ran from the residence and was unable to be located upon officer’s arrival.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Jake Moody Road in reference to damage to property. The vehicle was damaged while owner of the vehicle interfered with the vehicle being repossessed on the trailer. Both parties were advised to see an attorney.
Feb. 1, a routine traffic stop on Patterson Street led to the arrest of Jemarl Andra Fountain, age 23, of Baxley. Fountain was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, open container and a seatbelt violation.
Feb. 2, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Georgia State Patrol on a two-vehicle accident with injuries on County Farm Extension and Highway 23.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Sweet Gum Lane in reference to stolen dogs. A complainant stated unknown person came into her yard and stole two of her dogs.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a theft. Subjects were later apprehended by Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office for removing pipe from the roadside that belonged to Appling County Shop. Sharon Soto, age 48, of Baxley, Merceleno Soto Diaz, age 44, of Baxley and Emilano Hernan, age 33, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Terrace Drive in reference to domestic. A mother and son had an altercation. Farris Blake Dyal, age 21, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Feb. 3, answered a call to Stanfield Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) entered her house and stole jewelry, two big screen TV’s, X Box 360,Wii, and money from piggy banks. Investigation continues.
Feb. 4, Appling County Deputies assisted the Georgia State Patrol on an accident that occurred on Highway 169. No injuries were reported.
Feb. 5, answered a call to Sellers Road in reference to a burglary. Unknown person(s) entered the residence through a window and stole $300.00 in U.S. currency. Investigation continues.
