Arrests reported by Chief Godfrey
The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several weeks.
On July 10 at approximately 3:23 p.m., met with the residents at a Pendleton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the residents told officers that while they were gone, person(s) unknown entered their home and removed an undetermined amount of currency and an assortment of jewelry items, which included 10 bangle bracelets, several gold rings, several gold chains, and several pairs of earrings. The resident said that the jewelry was unique and had come from India.
July 13 at approx. 9:39 a.m., assisted agents from the Insurance Commissioner Fraud Unit to serve a search warrant at the Hometown Insurance Company. The officers assisted in securing the premises during the execution of the warrant. This investigation is ongoing.
July 14 at approx. 12:04 p.m., answered a call to a Holmesville Avenue address in reference to conducting a welfare check on the resident. On arrival the officers met with a neighbor who told them that she had went over to check on her neighbor and found her to be unresponsive, so she called 911 for assistance. Upon arrival of the EMS it was determined that the resident Linda Ruth Christmas, 64, of Baxley, had died sometime during the night. The coroner was called to the scene and the incident was turned over to him.
July 14 at approx. 11:12 a.m., met with a resident at the police station in reference to some forged checks. The resident told officers that she had noticed she had not been getting a bank statement, and upon checking she discovered that several checks had been passed on her account that she did not sign. She also reported that she was missing several rings and a 38-caliber handgun. An investigation revealed that a subject she had let move in with her and her boyfriend had forged and passed the checks. Arrested in connection with this incident was Julie Stone, 40, of Baxley, on charges of four counts forgery in the first degree and Stacy Crapps, 35, also of Baxley, on one count of forgery in the first degree.
July 16 at approx. 2:17 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was William K. Williams, 19, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
July 16 at approx. 10:45 p.m., observed a black vehicle parked next to a tree line in a field. Upon the officer’s investigation and after conducting a consent search, a quantity of cocaine was seized along with other drug paraphernalia. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Sarah Dukes, 27, of Baxley, on charges of one count VGCSA for possession of crack cocaine and possession of a drug related object.
July 18 at approx. 10:18 a.m., answered a call to Joe’s Quick Stop in reference to a theft. The storeowner said that upon opening up the store, she discovered a large sum of money missing from the daily operating bank bag. This incident is still under investigation.
July 18 at approx. 12:44, answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. The officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Earvin Jones, 54, of Baxley, on one count of theft by shoplifting.
July 19 at approx. 8:15 a.m., met with a complainant at the police station in reference to a possible scam. The complainant told officers he had been the object of a scam in that he was supposed to be paid as a mystery shopper and stated that the company had sent him two money orders to buy certain items with. But before he did this he had the money orders checked and discovered that they were counterfeit. Both money orders were in the amount of $890.45 each, and had the following serial numbers on them R203308281557 and R203308281546.
July 19 at approx. 8:00 p.m., met with a resident at an Idell Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told the officer she discovered that several items were missing while she was checking on a vacant trailer that she owns, which included a whirlpool washer, a T.V. and a picture of a black panther.
July 21 at approx. 2:52 a.m., while checking on businesses discovered that a glass door had been broken out at the Three Way Discount store. The officers secured the business and contacted the key holder who arrived shortly and secured the store. An investigation revealed that a male subject busted the door out and removed several items and then fled on foot. Further investigation led to the arrest of Latrez R. Reddish, 18, of Baxley, on charges of one count burglary.
July 22 at approx. 4:26 a.m., assisted the Baxley Fire Department personnel at a structure fire at 1280 Blackshear Highway. The officers blocked the highway and conducted traffic control while the firemen battled the roaring fire. After the fire was put out the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene due to suspicious nature of the fire.
July 22 at approx. 8:58 a.m., met with a resident at a Holmesville Avenue address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that in the last two weeks, person(s) unknown had stolen 15 DVDs from his residence and a blue and gray tool set from his tool shed.
July 23 at approx. 11:20 a.m., met with a complainant at Mango’s in reference to a theft. The complainant told officers they were missing a silver ring from their business. Investigation led to the recovery of the ring and the arrest of Tiffany Leann White, 37, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
July 23 at approx. 2:40 p.m., met with a complainant at Joe’s Quick Stop in reference to some forged checks. On arrival the complainant told officers that someone had stolen some of his checks and had been passing them. Investigation led to the arrest of Jackie Ray Strickland, 40, of Baxley, on charges of three counts of forgery in the first degree.
July 24 at approx. 1:55 p.m., met with a resident at a Burns Lane address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a basketball goal and a black backboard from her residence.
July 24 at approx. 2:30 p.m., met with a complainant from the Other Company in reference to a financial card fraud incident. The complainant stated that only certain persons had access to the credit cards and they were for business only. The complainant told officers that some people were using the cards without his permission. Investigation led to arrest of Jessica Deloach, 27, of Baxley, on charges of 31 counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count theft by taking.
July 28 at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a complainant at the Baxley/Appling County Housing Authority in reference to some property damage. On arrival the complainant told the officers that unknown person(s) had damaged the outdoor lights on the 700 Block of the Clay Homes housing projects. The complainant stated this is the second time this has happened.
July 29 at approx. 3:44 p.m., met with a resident at the Village mobile home trailer park in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a refrigerator, a stove, a DVD player and over 100 DVDs.
July 29 at approx. 7:30 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking several items without paying for them. Upon the officers getting ready to transport the subject for booking, she became irate and combative with the officers, and attempted to elude arrest to the point that the officers had to physically restrain her. Arrested in connection with this incident was Banect Kaur, 24, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by shoplifting and obstruction of a police officer.
