Educated decisions
I know it’s a little early to start talking 2012 politics, but there is a topic that has really been weighing on me for a few days, especially after seeing the mess Washington has created. If you will indulge me for a few moments, I would like to ask that you consider two mock politicians/options.
Candidate A: He or she is very polished. This person attended a major university and was groomed to enter into the political world. He or she has an amazing ability to give outstanding oral presentations. However, in reality, this candidate has worked very little in the “real” world.
Candidate B: This candidate attended a lesser-known university and upon graduation, immediately got a job and started earning a living. He or she later decided to enter into the world of politics. This person may not be as polished and may have more difficulty giving speeches, etc.
Which of these two would you choose?
Please do not get me wrong; there are anomalies in both examples, but the vast majority of the time I would have to go with the candidate that has “real” world experience over the career politician.
Believe it or not, this opinion piece is not about any particular candidate. It is, however, about us as an electorate and that we carefully study each and every candidate from the local level to the national level. As voters we have got to stop voting for candidates that simply give us lip service in order to get elected and start really considering track records and past experiences.
The upcoming election year is fast approaching. The national political arena is already heating up. Now is the time to start paying attention to the candidates and doing the needed homework to make an educated decisions come election time.
It is up to us to make the needed changes to get this country back on the right track.
