Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 21, answered a call on Graham Methodist Church Road in reference to a suicide attempt. The victim was found slumped over in a chair, however she had not harmed herself. The EMS was called to the scene to check out the victim.
Deloach gives update on incidents
July 21, answered a call on Zoar Road in reference to threats. The complainant stated that an argument occurred between acquaintances. The complainant was advised to see the magistrate office.
July 22, answered a call to Daisy Lane in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated while he was sleeping someone entered his residence and stole his wallet. Investigation continues.
July 22, answered a call on Chad Claxton Road in reference to a child custody dispute. The complainant stated that the child custody rights had been ignored by the offender. The complainant was advised to contact her lawyer.
July 22, answered a call on Hatch Parkway North in reference to child custody. The complainant stated that the offender would not let her have her child. The parties were advised to see a lawyer.
July 22, after following a vehicle down several roads, a traffic stop was made after boxing in the offender in a parking spot. The offender attempted to jump out of the vehicle, because he was found with several hubs and electric motors. Eugene Smith, age 43, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with suspended license, fleeing or attempted to elude and theft by taking.
July 23, answered a call at Morris Landing in reference to fighting. Upon officer arrival, the complainant stated that he tried to break up the fight and got hit in the face area and was knocked out. The complainant was taken to the ER for treatment. Tony Howard Melton age 19, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with battery.
July 23, answered a call at Appling HealthCare in reference to a mental patient. The offender was being non-cooperative and was swinging at one of the emergency room nurses. The offender was transported to Georgia Regional Hospital.
July 23, answered a call on Milton Sellers Road in reference to disorderly conduct. The complainant stated that the offender was bothering his wife and children by cussing at them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Kelby Van Studstill, age 38, of Baxley. Studstill was charged with disorderly conduct and was transported to the detention center.
July 23, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office and reported that she and her boyfriend began to argue. The argument escalated and the offender began to hit the complainant. Arrested in connection with this incident was Phillip Corey Tomberlin, age 18, of Baxley. Tomberlin was charged with battery and aggravated assault.
July 23, answered a call on Clyde Road in reference to a theft. Taken was a wallet with a Social Security card and debit card inside as well as $9.80 in cash. Investigation continues.
July 24, officers met with the complainant at the Citgo Convenience Store in reference to a theft that occurred elsewhere. Taken was an axle off of a truck. The axle was valued at around $500.00. Investigation continues.
July 24, answered a call to the country club golf course in reference to battery. A complainant stated that he and the offender got into an argument and the offender shoved him into a glass door causing the door to break.
July 24, answered a call on Zoar Road in reference to attempted suicide. The complainant advised that she didn’t want to live anymore and she had cut her wrist. The complainant was taken to the emergency room for treatment.
July 24, answered a call on Cameron Road in reference to a civil matter. The complainant stated that there was a civil matter concerning money that had not been resolved between the complainant and the offender. When the deputies arrived at the scene, the offender became combative when questioned about the incident. Arrested in connection with this incident was Matthew Thompson, age 24, and Russell Tyler, age 30, both of Callahan, Florida. Thompson was charged with obstruction of an officer - two counts, suspended license and operating ATV on the roadway. Tyler was charged with obstruction of an officer.
July 25, answered a call on Mae Lane in reference to a brush fire. The complainant stated that she was burning a trash pile in the yard and the wind changed directions and caught an older mobile home on fire and destroyed it.
July 25, answered a call on Alpine Drive in reference to theft by taking. Taken were several items from a residence without permission. Total value of items taken was approximately $847.00. Investigation continues.
July 25, answered a call on South Main Street in reference to lost or mislaid property. The complainant stated that a saw was placed on the side of the roadway by workers and when they returned the saw was gone. The saw was orange and white in color.
July 25, answered a call on Deen’s Landing Road in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant stated that the offender has been making threats via phone and text messages. The complainant was advised to see the magistrate office.
July 26, answered a call on Wayne Jones Road in reference to damage to property. The underpinning on a trailer, as well as the underneath insulation, was damaged.
July 26, answered a call to Gardenia Circle in reference to a possible suicide attempt. The victim was found with a piece of glass in their hand, and was transported to Appling ER for evaluation.
July 26, answered a call to Reese Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The altercation occurred between a husband and a wife. The husband had left the residence before officers arrived.
July 26, answered a call to Ten Mile Highway in reference to a theft. The complainant stated missing from residence was a 2004 Cadillac Seville. A bolo was given out on the vehicle. An investigation reveled a family member had the vehicle.
July 26, answered a call to Cadillac Drive in reference to a theft. The complainant stated while he was away from his residence, his girlfriend, which had a key to his residence took several items, valued at $565.00. The complainant only wants his items back.
July 26, answered a call on Russell Road in reference to a dispute. The altercation was between a grandmother and a grandchild.
July 26, answered a call on Brown Street in reference to a child custody dispute. Parties were advised to see a lawyer in reference to this incident.
July 28, answered a call to Ten Mile Road in reference to a theft. An employee of the road department stated an individual was taking metal pieces from under a bridge. As the result of an investigation an arrest will be forthcoming.
July 28, a routine traffic stop on Highway 341/MLK Avenue resulted in the arrest of William Oliver Prescott, age 23, of Vidalia. Prescott was charged with pills not in original container.
July 28, a routine traffic stop on Highway 341 East resulted in the arrest of Christopher Arnez Wynn, age 26, of Baxley. Wynn was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug related object.
July 28, answered a call on Memphis Crosby Road in reference to a theft. Taken were two lawnmowers, some wire from underneath a trailer, several plow parts and a set of planters. Investigation continues.
July 29, answered a call to Courson Road in reference to damage to property. Unknown person or persons damaged complainant’s property by moving some dead trees.
July 29, answered a call on Dunn’s Lake Road in reference to a burglary. Taken was a Whirlpool refrigerator, black in color. Investigation continues.
July 29, answered a call on Cook Street in reference to a fight. Upon the arrival of the officer, Vera Clark, age 35, and Angela Skinner, age 32, both of Baxley, were arrested and charged with affray.
July 29, answered a call on Yellow Jacket Road in reference to a theft. Taken was a truck with a loader on it. Investigation continues.
July 29, answered a call to Jake Moody Road in reference to a theft. A property owner reported that a four-ton air-condition unit, valued at $3,000.00 is missing. Investigation continues.
July 29, answered a call to Gene Road/Odum in reference to a Theft. The complainant stated missing from his shelter was a 14-horse power Snapper mower, valued at $500.00. The lawn mower was later located a short distance from the residence with the hood torn off and stuck in the ditch.
