Dear Editor,
On Wednesday night, April 20 a car hit my Weimaraner, “Maggie.” The accident caused extensive damage to her leg, leaving the bone exposed, meat and hide gone, and her artery severed and she was bleeding profusely. My regular vet was several counties away and was going to meet me, but I knew she would not make it that long. I called Doctor Hall, whom I have never used, and he told me to meet him at his office. He met me at the car. That moment would be another story within itself, but that was the moment I bonded with Dr. Hall.
Appreciates Dr. Hall and staff
His grandson, Jacquez, came with him. We carried Maggie in. He looked her over, tied off her leg and went to gather the tools he would need. Jacquez stepped up and asked me my dogs name and asked about her shot records and said, “That leg doesn’t look good, but I think we can fix it.” Now this nine-year-old boy really has knowledge that was overwhelming to me. Dr. Hall returned to the room and started to work on Maggie. He gave her medication to relax her so he could begin to put her leg back together. It was a mess, but he worked slowly and cautiously.
It was his calmness that began to relax me. I was confident that Maggie was in great hands. Dr. Hall’s assistant Mitchell arrived and began to assist with the procedure. Every now and then Maggie would begin to come around and Jacquez (the grandson) would say, “She is waking up a little too much, better give her some more juice.” It took over two hours to sew her leg back together.
I watched the entire process with the confidence that if she did not pull through, I do not know of anything that could have been done differently. Dr. Hall could see the strong attachment between Maggie and me, and he seemed to have read my mind when I wanted to stay with her through the night. I offered to sleep on the floor, outside, or anywhere just so she would not be alone and hurting. He and Mitchell assured me that they would keep an eye on her and keep her comfortable. I left knowing without any doubts that all that could be done for her would be done.
It has been a long healing process. We are still dealing with one small spot. Dr. Hall’s assistant Paula and Dr. Hall’s wife, Ora have been so patient with my many, and I mean many phone calls and questions. I know this article was a “little” long, but I just wanted the public to know what an outstanding job Dr. Hall and his staff have done. You would have to see before and after pictures of Maggie’s leg before you could fully appreciate them the way that I do.
