Bobby Lee Gay, Sr., 64, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Gay was born Dec. 30, 1946 in Baxley to the late J. W. Gay and the late Mattie Lee Stone Gay and had resided here all of his life. He was retired and before retirement he worked as a backhoe operator for Appling County Road Department. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church but was attending Spring Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Gay of Baxley; one daughter, Stephanie (Terry) Mincey of Baxley; two sons, Lee (Glenda) Gay and Andy (Robin) Gay, both of Baxley; brothers, H. W. Gay, J. L. Gay, both of Hazlehurst, Berlon Gay of Callahan, FL and Carlos Ussery of Jacksonville, FL; and six grandchildren, Haley Gay, Christy Mincey, Cecil Mincey, Carrie Gay, Terry W. Mincey and Hannah Gay.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 22 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Bryant and Bryan Gill officiating. Interment followed in Old Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Graham.
Active pallbearers were Terry Mincey, Harry Jenkins, Kevin Green, Kevin Thomas, Bob Lee and James Gay.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Appling County Road Department, Randall “Rat” Kersey and all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Danny Lewis and Carol Chancey.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
