SOURCE, which is Service Opportunities Using Resources in a Community Environment, certainly lived up to its name because of the gifts you placed under the tree at FNB South or brought to our office. One of you reached out to an entire family and financed their Christmas. . .dinner and all!
We cannot begin to tell you what those gifts meant to the people who received them. We wish all of you could have delivered the gifts yourselves so you could have seen the clients’ faces. One man received a pair of sneakers; he had never had a new pair of shoes in his life. He is saving them to wear on Sundays and other special occasions. Another received a shop heater. His eyes teared-up with joy and thanksgiving.
The recipients were like little kids opening gifts from Santa Claus. Everyone “oohed and aahed” so appreciatively. For one man, who has no family, it was the only gift he received for Christmas. One lady’s daughter, who opened a microwave and space heater for her mother, said, “you don’t know how much she needed these. She’s on the food program and had no way to heat her food.” The lady who had her $100 electricity bill paid was ecstatic. She used money with which she would have had to pay that bill to fix her heater.
So many people, who are in need all year long, not just at Christmas, can use your help. Keep SOURCE in mind when you are looking to help a neighbor. “Who is my neighbor? Anyone in need is my neighbor.”
Sincerely,
The Baxley staff of St. Joseph Candler/SOURCE: Jilda, Diane, Becky, Angela, Knickey, Maria, Suzanne, Thad, Barbara, Wendy, Sheila and Sandy.
