Dear Editor,
On behalf of all the evacuees (including myself) who took shelter during Hurricane Irma during the weekend beginning September 8, at the First United Methodist Church, Pastor Steve Meguiar and the members of that church deserve a big shout-out for all they did for us. We had ample food, water, cereal, snacks, etc., for that time. Reverend Meguiar had a well-organized plan to keep track of evacuees along with people to be contacted in case of an emergency; he, along with some of the ladies of the church, handled food preparation and supplies; the ladies came in and prepared the food so that we had hot meals as well as sandwiches and snacks and cleaned up after each meal; Reverend Meguiar maintained contact with the Emergency Management Agency as to the status of the hurricane; there were nurseries for children along with games and items for the young children; one member of the church entertained us with his guitar while we sang; and the church members worked tirelessly to have cots and blankets for the evacuees.
Donations of food, water and other items were available for all. Some of the items were donated by individuals and......
