Levina Ellen Beecher, 66, of St. Augustine, Florida, died Monday, May 6, 2013. Mrs. Beecher was born Jan. 7, 1947 in Jeff Davis County to the late Vascoe Parlor and the late Mary Ellen Carter Parlor. She was of the Baptist faith. Levina was a retired bus driver of the Appling County Board of Education.

Clara Deniece Carter
Clara Deniece Carter, 81, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at The Pavilion. A native of Appling County, she was born Nov. 24, 1931 to the late John Ellis Carter and the late Lolitta Ellen Lewis Carter. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Summerall and Carlos Carter, a sister, Wilma Sapp and brothers, Wallace, Bertice Lee, Ray and Edwin Carter. Ms. Carter was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church.

Elma O. Hale
Elma O’Berry Hale, 93, of Brantley County, died Saturday night (May 4, 2013) at Baptist Village. She was born in Charlton County to the late John C. O’Berry and Beulah Anderson O’Berry and lived in Brantley County most of her life. In her early years she worked in the Shipyards in Brunswick as a welder, a share cropper and a homemaker. Mrs. Hale retired from the Dairy Queen as the co-manager and also was a bookkeeper for the family wood business. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Mrs. Hale loved quilting, sewing, cooking and favorite pet, “Princess”, her dog.

Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst announces the funeral service for Larry Leroy Rogers, 76, who passed away Friday, May 10, 2013. Jimmy Lee Shipes, 66, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in the Appling HealthCare System. Shipes was born Sept. 4, 1946 in Appling County to the late Elbert and Elvie Thomas Shipes. He was a member of Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Shipes was a retired logger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dennie Kersey, brother, Bill Shipe and grandson, Trace Lee.

Fred R. Brannan
Fred R. Brannan, 59, of Baxley, died Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County and lived there until moving to Baxley in 2000. He was employed with the former Glenn’s Texaco for thirty years, attended the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons, and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie Juanita Tootle Brannan.

Willene Lewis Dell, 87, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Dell was born Oct. 16, 1925 in Coolidge to the late John Richard and the late Pearl Ella Adams Lewis. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Willene was a devoted Braves fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dell, two daughters, Carolyn Sharpe and Dianne Ansley and a grandson, Mark Ansley.

Calvin “Wimpy” Jackson, III was born March 23, 1959 in Baxley, to Calvin Jackson, Jr. and Lillie Naomi Jackson. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah. Jackson attended schools in the Appling County School System where he excelled as an artist.
