Willie Lee Kersey Sr., 59, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after a brief illness. Kersey is a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and worked at Rayonier for 30 years. He loved bull riding and spending time with puppies and grandchildren. He had a big giving heart, loved making people laugh and was the best father anyone could have. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carless and Louise Kersey; brother, Roy J. Kersey and sister-in-law, Kem Kersey.

Mary Madulka
Mary Madulka, 72, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in Surrency under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. She grew up in Tampa, FL and has been a resident of Tucker since 1968. She was a stewardess with Eastern Airlines, worked as a homemaker and was the owner and President of Landscape Management Services. She loved playing golf, gardening and music.

Aurelian C. Miles
Aurelian C. Miles, 60, died January 19, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center at Riverside Jacksonville, FL. Aurelian was born July 15, 1952 in Baxley to Joe Frank Miles, Sr. and the late Jimmie Hicks Miles West. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Miles was in the Georgia National Guard, a retired construction superintendent and an avid fisherman. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County.

Herman Grady Murray, 66, of Odum, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Murray was born Jan. 20, 1947 to the late Willard Grady Murray and the late Lorraine Lightsey Murray. He was a member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Murray was a general contractor.

David Smith
David Smith died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Kindred Hospital Central Tampa in Tampa, FL. Smith was born in Baxley on Sept. 14, 1945 to the late Ruben Smith, Sr. and the late Veler Singleton Smith. David gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at a very early age. He attended Appling County School System and later attended Hill Brook Community College in Tampa. Smith was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Rosetta Russell Smith. He was a Lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. While a member of the Masons he proudly obtained the rank of Master Mason. Smith was a faithful member of the Landmark Masonic Lodge #93 F. &A.M. Inc. of Tampa. David was retired from the Cargill Company after completing 43 years of faithful service.

Joe Anna Mosley Campbell Rooks
Mrs. Joe Anna Mosley Campbell Rooks, died January 3, 2013. She was born in Jeff Davis County on Feb. 13, 1924 to the late Samuel Mosley and the late Celia Brookins Mosley. She was educated at the Appling County School System, graduating with honors. She continued her education earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Education from Savannah State College with honors. Joe Anna became the parent of her first born child, Celia, in 1947. She married Lee Campbell who preceded her in death. She was blessed to marry again; to this union with Donald Rooks, she was blessed with the birth of her second child, Edward O’Neal Rooks. The two loves of her life were her children, Celia and Edward.

Wannell M. Herrington
Wannell M. Herrington, 81, of Baxley passed away Monday, January 7, at Community Hospice after a short illness. She was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County for many years and Appling County for 65 years. Wannell was daughter of the late Marvin Meeks, Sr. and Rena Rigdon Meeks and preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack Dennis (J.D.) Herrington; three sons, Dennis, Dale and Gary Herrington; two grandchildren, Chris Atkinson and Tony Herrington; four brothers, Marvin Meeks, Jr., James Quinton Meeks, Joffard Meeks and Jerry Dennis Meeks and a sister, Gennell Wildes.
