She was in seventh grade at Appling County Middle School and a member of Sand Hill Creek Baptist Church where she was very involved with the Sand Hill Creek Youth Group. Kimmie loved her family, was always smiling and eager to lend a hand to those in need and help take care of others.

Mr. L.W. Spell, age 88, of Hazlehurst, died Sunday, October 14, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Spell was born December 12, 1929, in Jeff Davis County to the late Gaines Erastus Spell and Mattie Hand Spell. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, retired Owner and Operator of Spell Exterminating Service and an avid craftsman of wood. He was a member of Gideons International. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Spell and son, David Spell, siblings, Eunice Johnson, Louise Ryles, Myrtle Herrington, Loyal Spell and Raleigh Spell.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Walt Swain of Hazlehurst; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Vivien Spell of Atlanta, two sisters, Corene Grosse and Jewel White; brother, Donnie Spell; five grandchildren, Sarah Beth Swain, Samuel (Krystle) Swain, Kaylan Spell, Grant Spell and Kelsie Spell; several nieces and nephews also survived.

Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral services for Warren “Ray” Mayers who passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at his home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia at the age of 86.
Ray was born in Appling County on November 10, 1931, to Ed and Ellen Cain Mayers. He was a graduate of Baxley High School and North Georgia Technical College. He also served in the Air Force where he got to live in exotic places like Puerto Rico, Victoria, Texas and Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a faithful and involved member of Zoar United Methodist Church where he served on many governing boards. He was a farmer as well as a former employee of Plant Hatch, Bax Steel and Harris Waste management. He could design and build nearly anything simply by examining it. He was a gentle man, with a wry sense of humor. One had to listen carefully to catch something he said as it quickly flew by.
Ray is survived by his children, Michael (Bedell) Mayers of Baxley and Cindy (David) Vedas of Valdosta, and four grandchildren: Katie Mayers, Colby Mayers, Ellen Vedas, and Allison Vedas Cooper; and a great-grandson, Carson Ray Cooper. He is also survived by his brother, Hugh Mayers of Baxley, and sister, Carolyn Bridges of Atlanta. Many nieces and nephews also survive as well as other extended family.
A service was held Monday, October 22, 2018 at 12:00 at Zoar United Methodist Church with the Reverends Steve Meguiar and Danita Knowles officiating.
Visitation was held from 10:00 to 12:00 at the church prior to the service.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Betty R. Gardner, age 89, of Homestead, Florida and formerly of Baxley, died September 30, 2018, in Miami Florida.
Mrs. Gardner was born November 22, 1928, in Surrency, Georgia to the late Wildon Cornelius Rentz and the late Myrtice Herndon Rentz. She was a retired teacher and a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mrs. Gardner was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Gardner, and a grandson, Adam Matthew Hernandez.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Gardner of Miami, Florida; son John L. Gardner, Jr. of Bellview, Florida; sister, Jean Rentz Ison of Brooks, Georgia; and brother, C. W. Rentz of Surrency, Georgia. Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

James Randall Reeves, age 71, of Baxley died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after a short illness.
Mr. Reeves was born November 12, 1946 in Hazlehurst to the late William Martin “W. M.” Reeves and the late Effie Mae Cain Reeves. He was retired from Bates & Associates Construction and was a veteran of the United Sates Army having served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Reeves was a member of Harvest Chapel Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and he also served on the building, grounds, & maintenance of the church. He loved to fish and to build all kinds of what-knot tables and refinishing furniture or any type of woodworks.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Carter Reeves of Baxley; daughter & son-in-law, Suzanne & Jason Smith of Orlando, Florida; son & daughter-in-law, Blake & Jamie Reeves of Hazlehurst; brother & sister-in-law, Burnette & Glynda Reeves of Baxley; and six grandchildren, Taira (Logan) Sims, Cheyenne (Dyllan) Fennell, Christian Reeves, Jasmine Reeves, Lyla Smith, & Paisley Smith. Austin Milikin, age 26, of 2509 Drayton Road, Vienna, died Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Medical Center of Peach County.
Austin was born in Americus on March 20, 1992. He was a 2010 graduate of Fullington Academy where he participated in FFA and then earned a degree in Diversified Agriculture from ABAC in Tifton. Austin loved the outdoors, especially duck hunting and recently became certified as a first responder and fireman. He was also a member of the Georgia Bullhawgs Cooking Team. His grandfather, James Milikin, preceded him in death. Austin was also an organ donor.
Survivors include: Father: Monty Milikin (Karla) of Vienna; Mother: Rhonda L. Prickett of Baxley; Brother: Avery M. Prickett of Baxley; Sisters: Abbigail Milikin Harris (Dez) of Baxley, Hannah B. Funeral services were held Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bethel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Derek Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hunter lied in state one hour prior to services on Monday. Visitation was held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband Wade Googe; parents, Ralph and Allie Beckworth; four brothers, Thomas Beckworth, Langford Beckworth, Earl Beckworth and James Carroll Beckworth.

SIMON GEORGE WOOTEN
Simon George Wooten, age 94, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went home to be with his wife Betty Jean and the Lord on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia with family members by his side.
Simon was born October 15, 1923 in the Zoar Community, Appling County, Georgia to the late George C. and Rebecca H. Wooten. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County.
He graduated from Baxley High School in 1942. Simon had a 42 year distinguished career as a rural letter carrier in Appling County. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community in a variety of volunteer services. This included many hours of service with the Baxley Appling County Hospital Auxiliary Services at the Appling Healthcare System.
He was a long time active devoted member of the Zoar Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an ordained deacon and deacon chairman. He also was a long time song leader. Simon was the oldest active member of the church. His church and strong Christian faith where crucial pillars in his life.
Simon was a devoted husband, father, and family provider. He had a unique passion for people. He loved meeting people, getting to know their family, and family history. He never met a stranger. He was also very interested in local community and county histories. Simon was an avid sports fan. He loved to watch Braves Baseball and Georgia Football.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean Wooten; his parents, George G. and Rebecca H. Wooten; and sisters, Wilma Cain and Ammie Cain Cothern.
He is survived by his son, Reggie G. Wooten (Ivey Clanton) of Baxley/St. Simons Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Tom (Dawn) Moree of Brunswick and Dr. & Mrs. Vince (Heather) Culpepper of Cordele; three granddaughters, Jessica Stepowany (Scott) of Loganville, Shelsea Jackson (Josh) of Waverly and Meredith Culpepper of Kennesaw; one grandson, Nicholas Culpepper (Jerrett Irwin) of Cordele; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn, AJ, and Eli Stepowany of Loganville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The love and care that they gave Dad, during the last two months, made the last days of his long life’s journey far better than they possibly could have been.

Johnathon Isaac Swain, age 16, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Savannah.
Johnathon was born February 1, 2002 in Ware County and was a member of Friendship Church of God. He was a student at Appling County High School where he was a member of the Appling County High School Chorus. Johnathon was known for having the biggest loving heart anyone could have and loved singing, building furniture and loved seeing you smile.
Survivors include his parents, Melissa & Spencer Craven of Baxley; sisters, Rose Craven, Jolene Craven both of Baxley and Elizabeth Swain of Waycross; brothers, Christopher Hager, Joshua Craven both of Baxley, Shane Sweat of Waycross and Cody Lynn of Baxley; maternal grandparents, Warren & Wanda Strickland of Blackshear; paternal grandparents, Florence Craven & Charles Shaddle of Baxley. Gene Smith, age 76, of Odum, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018.
Mr. Smith was born April 14, 1942 in Chatham County to the late Edward Ellis Smith and the late Bessie Clyde Smith. He was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church but attended Antioch Congregational Christian Church. Mr. Smith enjoyed woodworking, refinishing & building furniture, gardening, farming and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He retired after 45 plus years as shipping supervisor for Akzo and was preceded in death by two brothers, James Stone & Claude Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janice Thornton Smith of Odum; daughter & son in law, Felicia & Greg Rogers of Odum; sisters, Sara Smith of Baxley, Marguerite Bullard of Brunswick & Cheryl Newman of Evans; brothers, Mack Smith of Wister Oklahoma & Allen Carter of Baxley; granddaughters, Allison Rogers & Alicia Rogers.

Mrs.CLARA MAE DAVIS RUSSELL
Mrs. Clara Mae Davis Russell was born on July 26, 1933 in Appling County, to the late Oscar and Vincie Lee Phillips Davis. She was educated in the Appling County School System.
Clara was united in holy matrimony to Mitchell Leroy Russell, Sr. on October 17, 1954 and from this union eight children were born. She worked for Douglas and Harper for many years until she retired.
She was a member of St. John Church of God in Christ. During her membership she served in a variety of capacities including church mother, Usher, Bible Band Teacher, Sunday School Secretary and President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee.
Clara will be remembered for her love of gardening, baking delicious cakes, and as an exceptional seamstress. She was a great mentor to many people in the community. She always exemplified a warm and caring spirit. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
Mrs. Clara went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday October 3, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Leroy Russell, Sr.; three children Mitchell Leroy Russell, Jr., Cassandra Russell, and Clifton Russell; and nine siblings.
Precious memories of Clara will be forever cherished by her children: Gregory Russell (Sadie), Kathy Mashell Russell Solomon, (Alfred) Leon Russell (Elvira T.) all of Baxley, Stanley Russell (Lillie Ann) of Atlanta and Eric Demetrius Russell (Angela) of Adairsville; God-daughters: Jacquett Edwards and Dora Ogden Mann; Sister: Jenethal Burks (Harold) of Atlanta, She will also be cherished by her 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
