Helen Foster Wood, a resident of The Carriage Club of Charlotte, NC died Friday afternoon, October 14, 2011 at Mercy Hospital, of complications from congestive heart failure. A loving wife, dedicated mother and a triple-proud grandmother, she was 91 and was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Marion Eugene (Gene) Wood, Jr., in 2009.

Virginia Hamm, 67, of Graham, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. Mrs. Hamm was born in Jesup but had lived most of her life in Graham. She was the daughter of the late Emmett Mack Moody and Vivian Combs Moody and the wife of the late John (Pee Wee) Hamm. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawton Moody and a sister, Ann Bowyer. Virginia was an activity coordinator at the Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion.

JoAnn Russell Mock, 67, of Surrency, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. JoAnn was born Dec. 21, 1943 and resided in Appling County since 1984. She was a member of EL Shaddai Revival Worship Center. Ms. Mock was employed by the Pavilion as a nurse.

Gertie Lee Williams, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. Mrs. Williams was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Appling County to the late Harvey and Bithie Harden Spell. She was a member of Baxley Church of God. Gertie Lee was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday-School Class and the Young at Heart; she was also the last living charter member of the Baxley Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Archie Williams and two grandchildren, Moranda V. Williams Cole and Garrett Waden Williams.

David Larry Wolfe, Sr., died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 in Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst. Mr. Wolfe was born in Appling County and had lived here most of his life. He was retired and before retirement was employed with Rayonier as a construction worker. Wolfe attended Carter’s Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. He was the son of the late Benjamin Lainer Wolfe and the late Virdie O’Bright Wolfe.

Alton L. Sease
Alton L. Sease died Thursday, September 15, 2011. Mr. Sease was born in Baxley Sept. 1, 1946 to the late Albert Lewis Sease and the late Essie Lee Ogden Sease. Alton attended the schools in Appling County and graduated in 1964 from the Appling County Consolidated High School. Alton enlisted in the United States Army July 2, 1964. He received an honorable discharge June 14, 1967. While serving his country he became an expert marksman and received the National Defense Service medal. Shortly after his discharge Alton moved to Buffalo, NY and went to work for General Mills, where he retired after 40 years of service.
