Louise Jarrell, 82, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in Appling Healthcare System. Louise was born May 21 1929 in Thomasville and had resided in Baxley since 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Ambers Jerrell. She was the daughter of the late Willie B. Gerald “Dennis” Burke, 73, of Jesup, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County for the past 50 years and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired supervisor with the Department of Transportation, owner of Burke’s Used Cars for many years, loved to buy and trade anything, and loved traveling to the mountains. [Full Story »] 

Elither Pipkin Carter, 90, of Odum, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness. The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County the past 20 years, attended Jesup First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Naomi Sunday School Class, was a retired master seamstress, a homemaker, and enjoyed fishing, arts, and crafts. Marjorie Carter, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 in the Pavilion. Mrs. Carter was born Sept. 25, 1928 in Appling County to the late Tollie Cason and the late Mamie Hutcheson Cason. She was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Carter and a daughter, Linda Ruth Carter. [Full Story »] 

Robert Clark, 75, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Clark was born April 1, 1936 in Appling County and had resided here all of his life. He was retired and before his retirement he was a heavy equipment operator for 44 years and was employed with Appling County Road Department. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Dewayne Clark, a grandson, Lennie Smith III, and three brothers, Frank, Jr., John B. and Edgar L. Clark. James Hall, 78, died Thursday, January 5, 2012. James was born Oct. 10, 1933 in Appling County to the late James Harrell Hall and the late Margeret Rennie Vaughn Hall. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife, Dena Hall, son, Benjie Mincey; granddaughter, Penny Rebecca Turner; grandsons, Stacey Carter and Chris Turner, brother, Jack Hall and sister, Mary Ann Walker. Edna O’Quinn Lee, 88, of Bristol, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Pavilion in Baxley. Mrs. Lee was born May 23, 1923 in Appling County to the late Benjamin Franklin O’Quinn and the late Rosa Lee Carter O’Quinn. She was a member of Lake Chapel Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. Faye Lavene Eatmon, daughter of the late Lovell and Anna Eatmon was born March 11, 1954 in Huttig, Arkansas, died Monday, Dec. 26 in the Pavilion of the Appling Healthcare System after a lengthy illness. She attended school in Union County School System. Ms. Eatmon later moved to Baxley where she was an active member of Mizpah Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board faithfully until her health failed. She was employed with Appling Healthcare System for more than 17 years and then with the Appling County Board of Education Middle School Lunchroom in the food service department until her health failed. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen Ferece (Dennis) Andrews. [Full Story »] 

Troy Hartley, 88, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at the Pavilion. Troy was born March 29, 1923 in Appling County and had resided here all of his life. He was an ironworker and painter. Mr. Hartley was a member of Ferry Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Emma Lou “Sweet” Rowell and Gladys Rowell and brothers, Harvey Hartley and Johnny Hartley, Sr. Troy was the son of the late D.C. Hartley and the late Sippie Rowell Hartley.
Survivors include one sister, Valine Allen of Jacksonville, FL and a nephew, Johnny Hartley, Jr. of Baxley and other nephews and nieces also survive. [Full Story »] 

Ethelene Mims Hyers, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at her residence. Ethelene was born August 5, 1928 to the late Eddie Brooks Mims and the late Mamie Lou Hall Mims. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hyers was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Hyers. [Full Story »] 

Phil M. Jenkins, Sr., 85, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at his residence. Phil Sr. was born April 28, 1926 to the late Dr. Charles Rush Jenkins and the late Beaulah Hall Jenkins. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Holmesville Masonic Lodge no.195. Mr. Jenkins retired after 41 years of service from the City of Baxley water department as a meter reader. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Gladys Tuten Jenkins and friend and companion of 16 years, Mary Ann Vaughn and a brother, Alfred Jenkins. [Full Story »]
