Gloria Jean Woodard Nash, 62, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at her residence. Gloria was born Sept. 10, 1949 in Jacksonville, FL and had resided in Baxley most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. Ms. Nash was preceded in death by her son, Allen Beach and a sister, Pam Woodard. She was the daughter of the Rev. Mike Woodard and the late Sleeta Leigh White Woodard.

John C. Sailem (Showdog) died December 23, 2011. He was born March 20, 1954 to the late Mozell Stone and the late A.C. Fletcher. Early in life John pursued a career in welding and pipe fitting which required him to travel the U.S.A. and International countries. He married Linda LeCount Sailem Sept. 30, 1977. He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Dasher.

Wilma Jean Steadham, 83, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Mrs. Steadham was born in Telfair County but had lived most of her life in Appling County. She was the daughter of the late William Webster and the late Willie Lee Walker Webster. Mrs. Steadham was a retired seamstress and was a member of the Graham United Methodist Church.

Pamela Cranford, 53, of Macon, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at Regency Hospital in East Point. Pamela was a native of Surrency and had lived in Jones County for the past eight years. She attended Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon. Mrs. Cranford was retired from the Laurens County Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Virgil McCall.

Jamie Hutcheson, 47, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Memorial Health in Savannah. Jamie was born May 22, 1964 in Baxley to Mary B. Hutcheson and the late James L. Hutcheson. He was a member of Baxley Church of God. Mr. Hutcheson was employed by Nail’s Propane. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Belleauh Hutcheson and Clayton and Clois Butler and father-in-law, Mickey Deen.

Emma Wells Kidd, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at the Pavilion in Baxley. Ms. Kidd was born July 4, 1922 in Madison County and had resided in Baxley for the past 33 years. She was retired from the Georgia Baptist Children Home where she was employed as a group leader. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Kidd. She was the daughter of the late Nathan Wells and the late Maude Lowery Wells.

Geraldine Hardee Sampson, 80, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Beacon Place Hospice Home in Greensboro, N.C. after a 30-year battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be held at Guilford College United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28.

W. L. “Dub” Beecher, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Beecher was born July 24, 1930 in Appling County to the late Alfred Algerine Beecher and the late Dinah Carter Beecher. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Dub was a retired wood producer. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kessler, Hubert and Cappy Beecher and a step-mother, Laura Mae Beecher.

Wade Googe, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at his residence in Rock Hill, S.C. He was born on Feb. 2, 1931 in Appling County and had resided in South Carolina since 1988. Mr. Googe was a self-employed construction worker before retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War. Wade was the son of the late John W. Googe and the late Lucille Overstreet Googe. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Donald Googe.

Christine Miles Mock, 75, of Brunswick, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 in Brunswick Memorial Hospital. Christine was born in Appling County on Sept. 23, 1936 and had resided in Baxley until moving to Brunswick. She was a homemaker and had taught school. She was the daughter of the late Lee Miles and the late Mammie Perdue Miles. Ms. Mock was preceded in death by her husband, Earlon Mock and a son, Harry Mock.

Thomas R. “T.R.” Britt
Thomas R. “T.R.” Britt, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 in the Hazlehurst Court Care Rehab Center. Mr. Britt was born Aug. 7, 1926 in Appling County to the late Troy Britt and the late Ethel Simmons Britt. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. T. R. was retired from the Architect of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. as an electrician. He taught music several years at Hi Lo Music.

Lester Jackson “Heck” Graham, 84, of Graham, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. Mr. Graham was born in Jeff Davis County but had lived in Appling County for a number of years. He was the son of the late Marie Graham and the husband of the late Angie Lee “Salty” Graham. Mr. Graham was the retired owner and operator of Graham Logging.

Roy V. Green, Jr.
Roy V. Green, Jr., 85, of Brunswick, died Dec. 5, 2011 at South East Georgia Health System in Brunswick. Roy was born in Glynn County to the late Roy Virgil Green, Sr. and the late Lucretia Taylor Green. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Green was employed by Brunswick Pulp and Paper for 43 years and was a member of the Marine Corp League and Masonic Lodge 214. He was a WWII veteran, PFC in the Marine Corp where he fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Volcano Islands. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Roy loved his family and was an avid animal lover. His wife, Costello Steedley Green, preceded him in death.
