Joy Johnson Kopp
Joy Johnson Kopp, 82, of Flowery Branch, ended her long goodbye on June 11, 2013. Since retirement, she and her husband, of 62 years, Robert, had lived at the family’s log home on Lake Lanier among all their good ole stuff. Joy was the only child of the late Lt. Colonel James Ellis Johnson and Cornelia Parker Johnson Reeves growing up in Baxley surrounded by a large family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Faye Potter
Faye Potter, 78, of Vidalia, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Community Hospice House after a brief illness. She was a native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and as a child, grew up in Ft. Myers, Florida. She lived in Baxley and Vidalia most of her life. She managed several convenient stores and retired from Magic Market. She was Baptist by faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Potter, Sr.; son Arthur Potter, Jr.; parents, Burley and Edna Spillman; granddaughter, Kimberly Potter; and two brothers, Pat Spillman and Bob Spillman.

J. George Burkhalter, age 36, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in Pierce County. He was a native of Wheeler County and lived in Glenwood and Mt. Vernon all of his life. He was a truck driver, but was a drywall installer most of his life.

James Franklin Hattrich
James Franklin Hattrich, 66, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Appling Healthcare System. James was born April 21, 1947 in Savannah to the late Henry Franklin Hattrich and the late Evelyn Merle Griner Hattrich. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in Vietnam and was retired from Gulfstream. Hattrich was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Robert Lee Swint, Jr.
Robert Lee Swint, Jr., 81, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 in West Palm Beach, FL. Swint was born July 17, 1931 in Augusta to the late Robert Lee and Rosa Barksdale Swint. He was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church. Swint was a veteran of the United States Army with 21 years of service. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Army Commendation. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Swint and a grandson, John Thomas Peterson.

Joshua Lucas Varnadore
Joshua Lucas Varnadore, 33, of Atlanta, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 in Atlanta. Josh was born Jan. 28, 1980 in Ware County and had lived in Fulton County for the past 14 years. He served as the Pirate Mascot 1997, and was a member of ACCHS Chorus and Show Choir and Cobb County Show Choir. Josh lived his life passionately, loved his God, family and friends and never knew a stranger. He always found the good in every person he met, and was an encourager, with a big smile and a loud and infectious laugh. Josh strived to make a difference and he did. He was the richest man we have known. Joshua was preceded in death by a maternal uncle, Dent Nelson.

Alfred Baxley, 84, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Baxley was born May 3, 1929 in Appling County to the late Estell Baxley and the late Bertha Buchans Baxley. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he was Father of the Year in 2011. Alfred was the grand marshal for the ACHS Homecoming Parade 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Carter Baxley and two brothers, Colquitt Baxley and Willie Baxley, Sr.

He was a retired farmer; an Ironworker; a member of the Local Union #597 in Jacksonville and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Brodston Beckworh; his parents, Doc and Agnus Beckworth; one sister and three brothers.

Ronnie “Bo Cefus” Courson, 58, of Hazlehurst, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at his residence. Courson was born Aug. 25, 1954 in Tampa, FL to the late James Leon Courson and the late Evelyn Irene Creamer Courson. He had resided in Jeff Davis County for the past 30 years and was employed with Williams Brothers Trucking. Ronnie was preceded in death by his sister, Eve Beth Courson and a brother, James Tommy Courson.

Robert Avery Hill
Services for Robert Avery Hill, 92, of Dublin, were held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Dublin. Graveside services followed in Alamo Cemetery in Alamo. Dr. Jack Key and the Rev. Thad Haygood officiated. Hill passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
