The Appling Christian Academy Lady Eagles basketball team won three out of four games in the National Association of Christian Athletics Basketball Tournament in Dayton, Tennessee in order to advance to the championship game on Saturday, March 2. The varsity girls played James Island Christian School from Charleston, South Carolina. The James Island team had beaten the Lady Eagles earlier in the week in game three by a score of 39-36. The Lady Eagles played an outstanding game against the Lions in defeating them to win the national championship game 53-39. The James Island team had a season record of 24-5 and was undefeated in their region. With the win, Appling Christian Academy’s Lady Eagles improved their record to 21-2. Bethany Rivers was named the Player of the Game and was the leading scorer with 17 points. Bethany Rivers and Deanna Johnson led all rebounders with 11 and ten, respectively. In the teams’ earlier match up, Victoria Cox had been named Player of the Game.
