Group of investors buy golf course

Last week a group of 21 investors, made up of local businessmen, closed a deal to purchase the old Appling Country Club. The group has been meeting for several months and negotiated a deal with previous owners Woody Folsom, Jerome Murray and J.W. Murray, who had purchased the course in 2012. Woody Folsom and Jerome Murray will remain a part of the new group of investors. [Full Story »]

Lindsey Johnson more often than not tends to make a great first impression. Not only a standout academic student and a member of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Honors College as a first-year student-athlete, Johnson impressed opposing teams’ coaches this season with her incredible play on the softball diamond. For her efforts, Johnson was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American third-team. Johnson was earlier recognized by being named the first-ever PBA player to be selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region first-team. [Full Story »]

Lady Pirates track compete at region and sectionals

The following Lady Pirates track team finished fourth or better at the region track meet that was held at South East Bulloch High School, in Brooklet on April 15 and 16.  As a result of their accomplishments they qualified to go on to state sectionals that were also held at South East Bulloch on Saturday, April 27.  At sectionals the top eight finishers go on to compete at state. On Monday, April 22 the Appling Christian Eagle baseball team traveled to Valdosta to face the Open Bible Warriors in a contest to determine the GCAA Region II Champion. The only region loss suffered by the Eagles this season came at the hands of the Warriors earlier this month. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (16-6 overall, 12-4 Region 1A-AAA) played two games this past week with the first having the Pirates losing to Wayne County (18-5, 9-2 3A-AAAA) on April 15. The Pirates second game came against region foe Pierce County (19-4, 15-1) with the Pirates defeating the Bears 3-1. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Boys Track and Field team have won the region track and field meet for the third year in a row.  This makes the fourth region championship for the boys track/field team in six years, with the first team title coming in 2008 filling in the void of empty titles in over a decade.  Since then, the boys have won subsequent region titles in 2011, 2012, and 2013.  Their latest victory came after moving up from AA to the AAA level this past year.  The Pirates almost doubled the points of the second place team Southeast Bulloch with a score of 164.5 to 88.  [Full Story »]

Appling Christian Academy’s baseball team finished the regular season last week with an overall record of 16-2. The region record closed out at 5-1. The last game of the regular season was an 11-0 victory over region opponent Peoples’ Baptist of McDonough. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (15-5 overall, 11-4 Region 1A-AAA) started the week on the road against Southeast Bulloch (12-7, 10-4) with the Pirates coming up just short losing 6-7. The Pirates next contest came as they hosted Beach High (0-11, 0-11) in a double header winning both games, 17-0 and 10-0. [Full Story »]
