Altamaha Elementary announces Kindergarten Registration for 2013-14

Kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 school year is going on now at Altamaha Elementary School. Children must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2013 in order to be eligible for kindergarten. Please call the school office at 912-367-3713 and speak to Counselor Patsy Johnson to schedule an appointment to register your child. Appointments will be made from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. each day. Birthday Tax to disappear on vehicles after March 1

A new law that changes the way motor vehicles are taxed in Georgia will go into effect on March 1. Motor vehicles purchased on or after March 1 and titled in this state will be exempt from sales use tax and annual ad valorem tax, also known as the “Birthday Tax.” These taxes will be replaced by a one time tax that is imposed at the time the vehicle is titled on the fair market value of the vehicle called the title ad valorem tax (TAVT). For the first year of the TAVT, the rate will be 6.5% of the fair market value as indentified by the Georgia Motor vehicle assessment manual. The TAVT is applicable to dealer and casual sales, but excludes non-titled vehicles such as trailers and other non-motorized vehicles which will remain subject to ad valorem tax. [Full Story »]

Georgia’s longest yard sale, now over 220 miles long, the Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale will take place Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9 along the Golden Isles Parkway, U.S. Highway 341. Yard sale organizer for Appling County, Paula Tanner, encourages everyone planning to have a yard sale anywhere in Appling County during the Peaches to Beaches Yard Sale weekend, to please pay the $30 Official Vendor Fee and be listed on the official Appling County Site Map given to all visitors during the event. Your $30 fee covers your setup and advertisement for the entire weekend. Without the Golden Isles Parkway Association’s advertisement for the Peaches to Beaches Yard Sale the event would not be as successful for everyone.
