Appling County has successfully competed for and received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $497,379.00 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

September revenue numbers up 5.6 percent

The state of Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of September totaled $1.5 billion, an increase of $80.6 million or 5.6 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year. Through the first quarter of FY2012, net revenue collections totaled $4.1 billion, an increase of $272 million or 7.2 percent compared to last year, Gov. Nathan Deal reported today. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Board of Commissioners held a called meeting on Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting a motion was made by Commissioner Sarah Boatright to rescind her previous motion to not lower Lake Mayers and reopen the topic for discussion. Concern expressed over school attendance lines

At the request of some board members, Appling County School System employees presented information to the Appling County Board of Education on October 3 about the possibility of implementing district lines in the county. The purpose, as one board member explained, was to simply look at ways to increase attendance at Fourth District Elementary and Altamaha Elementary. However, parents and teachers at the meeting expressed concern about instituting school districts. [Full Story »] 

Subjects sought for growing marijuana

Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that on October 7, deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department executed a search on Hatch Parkway North after receiving information about the growing of marijuana. Upon executing the search, several plants were found along with items used to grow marijuana. Warrants have been taken for the arrest of Darrell Maxwell Beecher, age 38, and Robyn Hamm, age 37, both of Baxley, for manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At this time subjects have not been located to arrest. [Full Story »]
