March 21, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report fraud. The complainant stated she received a call from Publisher Clearing House stating she won $2.5 million dollars and a BMW vehicle, but in order to collect her winnings she had to send $6,000.00. Two arrested after large quantity of marijuana found

On March 21 Appling County Deputies were on North Holton Street to serve a warrant. During service of the warrant a large quantity of marijuana was found, which resulted in the arrest of Edward Radodney Adams, age 27 of Ludowici, and Jason Jones age 35, of Baxley. Jones is charged with aggravated assault, possession of arms by a convicted felon and probation violation. Adams is charged with obstruction of an officer, possession of firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes, VGCSA, marijuana with intent and possession of arms by a convicted felon. The following are highlights of incident that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.

Feb. 18 at approximately 2:32 p.m., while doing neighborhood watches on Mauldin Street observed a male subject acting suspicious. While the officer detained the subject for I.D. purposes, confiscated a small amount of marijuana. Arrested in connection with the seizure was Richard Anthony Poole, 25, of a Daisy Lane address on charges of one count possession of marijuana. [Full Story »]

Boy Scout Troop 472 will be having its Ninth Annual Pancake Breakfast during the Baxley Tree Fest on Saturday, April 13 at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This is the troop’s largest local fundraiser of the year, with all proceeds to remain here in Baxley/Appling County. Tickets are $5.00 for all you can eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk, and coffee (dine-in or carry-out). Orders of ten or more can be delivered. Members of the Appling County Board of Education (BOE) held their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on March 11. During the meeting the BOE unanimously approved the resignations of Leticia Oehlke as a bus driver and Bianca Fox as a teacher at Appling County Middle School (ACMS). The BOE approved the hiring of Kelly Turner as a bus driver and Jena Cranford as a teacher at Appling County High School (ACHS). During the work session held on March 4, the hiring of Stafford King as a teacher at ACHS was approved. [Full Story »]
