Citing the need to reduce costs associated with medical insurance coverage, the Appling County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a recommendation by County Manager Lee Lewis to change some of the coverage options for county employees and adopted a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) as part of the county’s health insurance plan at a meeting held on June 4. Commissioner Sarah Boatright made the motion to approve the changes and Charlie Leggett seconded. Some of the changes to the policy, held by United HealthCare and serviced by an Atlanta-based broker, includes copay increases from $15.00 per visit to a $35.00/$65.00 split per visit, the urgent care copay will increase from $35.00 to $75.00 and the emergency room visit copay will increase from $100.00 to $300.00. County employees will have the same $250.00 deductible, with an employee family-plan deductible at $500.00.
