The Appling County Pirates (16-6 overall, 12-4 Region 1A-AAA) played two games this past week with the first having the Pirates losing to Wayne County (18-5, 9-2 3A-AAAA) on April 15. The Pirates second game came against region foe Pierce County (19-4, 15-1) with the Pirates defeating the Bears 3-1. [Full Story »] 

Marijuana, gun found, turned into Baxley Police

According to Cheif James Godfrey on April 9 at approx. 11:10 a.m., Baxley Police answered a call to the Appling Healthcare Department in reference to some found property. On arrival a complainant told officers that she found a small red plastic bag containing marijuana in the parking lot. The marijuana was seized, bagged and tagged and entered into evidence. Anyone wishing to inquire or claim this item is urged to come by the police department at their earliest convenience, where an officer will be more than willing to assist them. [Full Story »]

ACHS Literary Team competes in region and state competitions

This year’s Region 2-AAA Literary Meet was hosted at Appling County High School for the first time in school history. A total of five schools participated in the region contest on March 2. The Appling County High School team captured second place with the second highest number of points in the region behind Southeast Bulloch High School.

Pirates win region track and field for third year in a row

The Appling County Boys Track and Field team have won the region track and field meet for the third year in a row.  This makes the fourth region championship for the boys track/field team in six years, with the first team title coming in 2008 filling in the void of empty titles in over a decade.  Since then, the boys have won subsequent region titles in 2011, 2012, and 2013.  Their latest victory came after moving up from AA to the AAA level this past year.  The Pirates almost doubled the points of the second place team Southeast Bulloch with a score of 164.5 to 88.  [Full Story »]

The Appling County High School is hosting a Fuel Up To Play 60 Pep Rally along with a taste-testing event introducing various food items for students and community feedback for next year. The event will be held on April 26th beginning at 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Pep Rally will include healthy eating plays; music, taste tasting new foods items from various vendors, fun activities, and the introduction to the High School’s new Smoothie Bar “Sailing with a Smoothie”, and much more.
