It started early Thursday, May 2, at First Baptist Church. Baxley Mayor Steve Rigdon hosted the annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast and the special guest speaker and performer was retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ron Henry, also of the singing group 4Troops. Henry shared emotional stories of his military experience and also performed a number of songs for the audience. Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

April 26, answered a call to Old Field Cemetery Road in reference to a dog complaint. The complainant stated his neighbor’s dog is very aggressive and attacked his dog, and has charged at his children.

April 26, answered a call to David Carter Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant and her boyfriend had an altercation. The boyfriend left the residence before officer arrived. [Full Story »] 

Eagles soar to GCAA State Championship

The Appling Christian Eagles hosted the Barnes Academy Vikings, from Hartwell, in a weekend series to determine the 2013 GCAA Champion. On Friday, May 3, the game was delayed due to rain. After the delay the Eagles were able start the first game and with the game tied in the seventh inning and two outs senior Rex Cox came to the plate. Cox would be clutch in this situation, delivering a walk-off home run. The final score was in the Eagles favor 4-3. [Full Story »] 

Local Relay for Life draws large crowd

The annual Appling County Relay For Life event was held at the Appling County High School at the track located next to Jimmy Swain Stadium on Friday, May 3. This year’s event drew a large crowd of 28 teams with over 360 participants that helped to raise over $34,900.00. [Full Story »]

Huge thanks and appreciation to everyone who participated in the Walk For Jesus this past Saturday, May 4.  It was a dreary, rainy day but in spite of the weather about 40-50 Christians turned out to walk in the rain for their Lord and King.  Others who couldn’t walk rode in vans provided by First African Baptist Church.
