Victor I. Hipps, 94, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Hipps was born June 26, 1917 to the late Oscar Starling Hipps and the late Lula Johnson Hipps. He was a member Melton’s Chapel Methodist Church and Asbury/Melton’s Methodist Men. Mr. Hipps was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Reeves Hipps, two brothers, two sisters and a brother-in-law.

Franklin “Wardell” Hutcheson, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at his residence. Wardell was born May 10, 1939 in Appling County to the late Anthony Hutcheson, Sr. and the late Helen Marie Griffin Hutcheson. He was a retired carpenter with Amoco Fabrics at Hazlehurst Mills. Cecil L. Lightsey
Cecil L. Lightsey, 86, died Sunday morning (Nov. 6, 2011) at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Metter after an extended illness. Mr. Lightsey was a native of Appling County. He was a self employed roofer and painter. He was the son of the late Hiram and Rena Boyles Lightsey. He is also preceded in death by his son, Carson Lightsey.

Clara Lee Vann
Clara Lee Vann, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Appling Healthcare System after a long illness. Clara was born in Jeff Davis County on May 23, 1945 to the late Joseph Sr. and Clara Mae Jones. Young man found lifeless at local motel
Baxley Police Officers answered a call to the Budget Host Inn on Nov. 5, at approximately 11:13 a.m., in reference to a request to check on a guest. Upon arrival the officers met with a relative of the guest and learned that he had arrived and was concerned over the well fair of the guest, his son. And after getting no response at the door, he asked the management to open the door to his room so he could check on his son.
Upon entering the room he discovered his son, Bryan Bullard, 25, of Baxley, was deceased. The scene was secured and the EMS was called to the scene along with the coroner’s office, the G.B.I. and the G.B.I. crime scene technicians. The coroner’s office released the body of Bullard to the Georgia Crime Lab for further forensic investigation. [Full Story »]

In the only contested race for Baxley City Council, incumbent Dr. Esco Hall, Jr. defeated Carlos L. Rooks, Sr. for the District 2 seat. Hall garnered 92 votes and Rooks got 58 votes. District 5 incumbent Betty Livingston ran unopposed and District 1 newcomer Kenneth J. Waithe also ran unopposed for the position left vacant after Councilman Eugene Walker, Jr. resigned earlier this year due to health issues.

To the best knowledge and belief of the undersigned, the party/parties in possession of the subject property known as 58 IVEY ST, BAXLEY, GEORGIA 31513 is/are: RENE MOYA AND BETTY MOYA or tenant/tenants. Said property will be sold subject to (a) any outstanding ad valorem taxes (including taxes which are a lien, but not yet due and payable), (b) any matters which might be disclosed by an accurate survey and inspection of the property, and (c) all matters of record superior to the Deed to Secure Debt first set out above, including, but not limited to, assessments, liens, encumbrances, zoning ordinances, easements, restrictions, covenants, etc. The sale will be conducted subject to (1) confirmation that the sale is not prohibited under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code; and (2) final confirmation and audit of the status of the loan with the holder of the security deed. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. Section 9-13-172.1, which allows for certain procedures regarding the rescission of judicial and nonjudicial sales in the State of Georgia, the Deed Under Power and other foreclosure documents may not be provided until final confirmation and audit of the status of the loan as provided in the preceding paragraph.
