Gator Preston
Last spring, I was feeding the fish from my dock and saw a small gator come up and begin eating the floating fish food. I started grunting like a baby gator to see if another one would pop up. It did. Scared the crap out of me when I turned around and there he was. I don’t have a witness but I am sure I made it off this fifty-foot dock in about 4 steps. After catching my breath and calming down, rather than shoot the creature, I called the erstwhile gator trapper extraordinaire, “Gator” Preston. They say Gator can trap or snare anything from a bullfrog to a buffalo so I figured he was the man for the job.

B. J. and I have made the Bahamas and the Caribbean a kind of second home. We have cruised there six times and we are in the process of booking yet another cruise to the awesome Western Caribbean in the not-too-distant future. Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 2, 1917 to Aldine and Willie Summerall and was married to Henry Grady Baker, Sr., She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was an active member of her Sunday school class. Mrs. Baker was a charter member of Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter of DAR and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a life long resident of Appling County.

Wanda Quillen Dixon, 60, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 in Waycross. She was born Feb. 18, 1953 in Sullivan County, Tenn. Wanda was married to Charles H. Dixon for 41 years. She lived her whole married life in Georgia. Her parents are Elaine Culbertson and the late James E. Quillen. Mrs. Dixon was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from the Appling County Board of Education.
