Sheriff Benny Deloach reports the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office over the past few days.
On May 24, deputies answered a call to Omega Cemetery in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated someone had destroyed a flower arrangement and also stuck a cigarette to a grave picture on family graves.
May 25, a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 1 South led to the arrest of Joseph Keith Benson, 31, and James Abe Flowers, 31, both of Blackshear, Ga. Flowers was charged with DUI/drugs and taillights required. Benson was charged with possession of a drug related object and possession of marijuana.
May 25, answered a call to Jekyll Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone had kicked open his door to gain entry. Nothing appeared to be missing at time of report, however evidence of drug use was found in the home. Investigation continues.
May 25, answered a call to Dupe Herndon Road in reference to a suspicious person. The complainant stated she believed she saw someone standing under her shelter and the person ran in the woods. Deputies checked the area, but no tracks were found.
May 27, answered a call to Cauley Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated someone had stolen his mailbox.
May 27, complainants came to the sheriff’s office to report elder abuse. The complainants stated a female subject had taken advantage of an elderly family member that is incompetent of making financial decisions. A DFACS elder abuse worker was notified and investigation continues.
May 27, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to a small child running down the roadway. The responding deputy found a seven-year-old male and returned him to his mother who stated he had left home because his laptop had been taken away from him for punishment.
May 27, answered a call to Blackshear Hwy. in reference to a welfare check on an elderly subject. The elderly man was found in a building with no cooling and little food. The deputies talked with a family member. The deputies went to the local Food Bank and took food to the elderly man. DFACS was notified and investigation continues.
May 27, answered a call to Donnie Lane in reference to a domestic. A wife stated she and her husband had a verbal altercation, which led to a physical altercation. The husband left the residence before deputies arrived.
