Dr. James Bedingfield, Sr., 90, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his residence in Milton. Dr. Bedingfield was born March 8, 1921 in Cadwell to the late Reason Andrew Bedingfield and the late Flaurie Proctor Bedingfield. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Baxley. Dr. Bedingfield was a graduate of UGA and the Medical College of Georgia. He started his practicing of medicine from 1948 to 2007 and delivered over 1,000 babies. Dr. Bedingfield was a member of USGA, Medical College of Georgia Alumni AMA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Aircorp having served as a rank of Captain. Dr. Bedingfield was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Bedingfield and a sister, Fannie Jo Bedingfield Holt.
Survivors include three daughters, Elena Kay Bedingfield of Chapel Hill, N.C., Amy Bedingfield Griffis of Baxley and Barbara Bedingfield Cecil of Milton; two sons, James Andrew Bedingfield II of Dublin and William Bedingfield of Beaufort, S.C.; one sister, Edna Bedingfield Branch of Tifton; 11 grandchildren, Andrea Bedingfield, Jason Bedingfield, Rebecca Bedingfield, Grayson Griffis, Jarrod Griffis, Andy Bedingfield III, Caroline Bedingfield, Laura Jo Lindsey Bedingfield, Britain Cecil, Savannah Cecil and Emory Cecil.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8 at First Baptist Church in Baxley with the Revs. Tommy Daniels, Keith Alderman and Glynn Cranford officiating. Eulogy was given by Cathy Atkins.
Interment followed at 3:00 p.m. in Cadwell City Cemetery in Cadwell.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Hardin, Mickey Lewis, Staten Lewis, Greg Griffis, Terry Cecil and Lindsey Bedingfield.
Musical selections were rendered by David Williams, Jonathan Hickox, Ansley Hickox, Britain Cecil, Emory Cecil and First Baptist Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
