According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach on April 7 and April 14, during the visitation period at the Appling County Detention Center, the restroom in the Appling County Sheriff’s Office lobby was searched and illegal items were found hidden in a trash can, which led to the arrest of Tina Taylor, 47, of Brunswick. Taylor was charged with two counts of crossing guard lines with weapons/drugs/intoxicants.

On April 7, a routine traffic stop led to a chase and resulted in the arrest of Hyman Garrett White, 34, of Baxley. White was charged with DUI/drugs, VGCS/marijuana, failure to stop for a stop sign, open container in a vehicle, driving while license suspended, failure to drive within a single lane, failure to register vehicle and adult seatbelt required.
April 9, answered a call to Hwy. 121/Surrency in reference to a domestic. Several young people were fighting in a yard.
April 9, answered a call to Branch Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone had entered her residence and took her TV, X-Box One, games and controllers. Investigation continues.
April 10, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to VGCS. While a patient was receiving treatment at the ER, the patient was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be marijuana and drug related objects. Warrants are being secured for the arrest of Alton Thrift, 31, of Hazlehurst, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.
April 10, an on going drug investigation has resulted in the arrest of William Robert Kelly, Jr., 51, of Baxley. Kelly was charged with VGCS/sale of methamphetamines.
April 11, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a missing/lost weed trimmer. The complainant stated he lost an Echo weedeater out of his truck.
April 11, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a civil matter. The complainant stated he let a subject borrow money from him and stated the subject still owes him money. Complainant was advised of legal action he could take.
April 11, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to identity theft. The complainant stated while receiving medical treatment, a female subject stole her phone and got her personal information to change her phone plan. The complainant was advised of legal actions that could be taken.
