The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On March 3 at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers met with a resident at a Canal Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told the officers that sometime during the last few days person(s) unknown had removed some items from her home. Reported missing was an Appling County High School ring, an Appling County Middle School ring, a pink ice ring and several coins from a five-gallon jug.
March 7 at approx. 8:23 a.m., officers met with a resident at a Barnes Street address in reference to a missing dog. On arrival the resident told officers that he was missing his two-year-old English bulldog. The dog is white in color and has black patches on both eyes.
March 7 at approx. 12:24 p.m., officers met with a complainant at the Baxley Eye Care office in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that a female person had entered the business to look at sunglasses. When she left, they noticed a pair of South Sea style Costa Del Mar 580P sunglasses missing. After an investigation and review of surveillance footage, a Cheryl D. Hinson, 53, of Surrency, was charged with one count theft by shoplifting in connection with this incident.
March 8 at approx. 10:38 a.m., officers met with a complainant at Carver’s Flooring and Carpet in reference to a missing trailer. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a sixteen-foot blue in color trailer from their business sometime during the night. The trailer had a wooden floor, two axles and four wheels and was loaded with scraps of flooring and carpet. On March 9, the trailer was located at a business in Surrency. The trailer had been left abandoned after two of the tires went flat and the trailer had been pulled on its rims. The trailer has been returned back to its owner.
March 8 at approx. 8:33 p.m., officers answered a call to Walmart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer that had a person detained for misappropriating several items. The LPC officer told officers that the person went through the self-checkout and had not scanned all the items and had changed some of the price tags. Charged in connection with this incident was Elizabeth C. Hood, 60, of Baxley, on one count theft by shoplifting.
March 10 at approx. 1:37 p.m., officers met with a resident at an Idell Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his four-wheeler from out of a shed in his back yard. The four-wheeler is described as being silver and black in color and is a Honda TRX 45 brand.
March 10 at approx. 1:43 p.m., officers met with a resident at a North Main Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident showed officers to an extension cord that was running from her home to the next-door neighbor’s home. After an investigation a Christopher R. Young, 40, of Baxley, was charged with one count theft by taking in connection with this incident.
March 10 at approx. 9:20 p.m., officers met with a resident at Golden Isle East address in reference to a domestic argument. On arrival officers met with the resident who told the officers that her and her boyfriend had got into an argument and it turned physical with him assaulting her and shoving her. After a brief investigation a Joel Bennett, 53, of Baxley, was charged with one count simple battery under the family violence act in connection with this incident.
March 10 at approx. 10:10 p.m., officers answered a call to Walmart in reference to a theft. On arrival the LPC officer told officers that a person had come into the business wearing sandals and left wearing boots. When the person was confronted, he fled the scene in a red in color vehicle. After reviewing the surveillance footage, identification was made and a warrant was issued charging Jeffery R. Dykes, 44, of Baxley, with one count theft by shoplifting in connection with this incident.
