Dale Mark Spell, 56, of Baxley passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Spell was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and was born August 31, 1959. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he served as the Choir Director for many years.
Before graduating high school, Mr. Spell began working at Appling General Hospital. During his career, he worked for 40 years in many capacities as a Registered Nurse and in various other departments until 2013. He also served his community when he was elected coroner of Appling County in 1980 and was one of the youngest elected officials in the nation at that time.
Mr. Spell was preceded in death by his father, Earl Clinton Spell, and his grandparents, Early and Mildred Spell, Collie and Mattie Lou Wilkes and a mother in law, Janet McMillan.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne McMillan Spell of Baxley; two daughters, Tiffany Spell and fiance, Reece Cothern and Courtney Spell, all of Baxley; son, Blake Spell of Baxley; nephew, Madison McMillan of Baxley; mother, Jean Wilkes Spell of Baxley; two sisters and brothers in law, Cindy and Chris Buckhalter of Arlington, KY and Joy and Keith Mack of Collins; a sister in law and brother in law, Jan and Shane Roberson of Augusta; a host of nieces and nephews; honorary daughter, Schyler Smith; honorary granddaughter, Aubrie Smith and his special friend, Dr. Teresa Cezar.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Daniels officiating and a eulogy by Terry Turner. Mr. Spell lay in state one hour prior to the funeral service.
Musical selections were rendered by Eileen Stone, Garrett Mack, Kevin Lewis, Glenn Beach, Kim Hall and Woodlawn Baptist Church Choir.
Interment followed in Omega Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Randy Kimbrel, Donnie Head, Terry Turner, Kelly Thomas, Jimmy Flood and Jeffrey Simmons.
Honorary Pallbearers were all friends in attendance.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
