Sheriff Benny Deloach reports the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 5, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to an assault, which led to the arrest of John David Kersey, 24, of Baxley. Kersey was charged with aggravated assault.
Feb. 5, answered a call to Piney Bluff Church Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated he bought several pieces of farm equipment from a family member and left the equipment on the family member’s property. The family member died and the widow of the family member sold the farm equipment. The complainant wants the equipment back. Complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
Feb. 5, answered a call to a Surrency Convenience Store/Surrency in reference to a bad check. Store employee stated she processed a check in the amount of $498.98 and was returned unprocessable. Investigation continues.
Feb. 6, a routine traffic stop of a four-wheeler on Ten Mile Road led to the arrest of Stephfon Marquiz Sellers, 18, of Baxley. Sellers was charged with VGCSA/cocaine, VGCSA/marijuana, driving while license suspended and operating restrictions and theft by receiving stolen property. Sellers was found to be driving a reported four-wheeler that was stolen in December, 2015 in Appling County. The four-wheeler was returned to owner. Investigation continues.
Feb. 7, answered a call to Henry Thomas Road in reference to criminal damage to property, which led to the arrest of Alexia Lesahe Vann, 18, and Antavia Deanna Riddle, 17, both of Baxley. Vann was charged with criminal damage to property, second degree, and possession of alcoholic beverages by persons below legal age. Riddle was charged with possession of alcoholic beverages by persons below legal age.
Feb. 7, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a burglary. The complainant stated someone had broken into his camper, but nothing appeared to be missing. The complainant named a possible suspect as a family member.
Feb. 8, answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to a one vehicle accident which led to the arrest of Mickey Beecher, 45, of Baxley. Beecher was charged with expired driver’s license, DUI, failure to stop at a stop sign, VGCS, pills not in original container and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Feb. 8, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone had broken into a business and stolen a sheet of checks. A local convenience store called the complainant and stated someone had cashed one of his checks. Investigation continues.
