According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach on February 4, at approximately 11:14 a.m., deputies answered a call to Sellers Road in reference to a burglary in progress. Deputies arrived and a foot chase led to the arrest of Michael Shane Miles, 40, of Baxley. Miles was charged with burglary.
Other incidents
On January 29, deputies answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to a vehicle fire. The victim’s vehicle caught on fire under the hood. The Baxley Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Graham Zoar Road in reference to an alleged sexual assault. The complainant stated she and a male subject were on narcotics, when he allegedly wanted to have sex with her, she consented then changed her mind. Investigation continues.
Jan. 30, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a missing person/overdue motorist. The complainant stated his seventeen-year-old daughter was due home after a basketball game and had not made contact with her parents in over three hours. A BOLO was entered on the missing subject. The complainant later notified the sheriff’s office that the daughter had returned home.
Jan. 31, answered a call to the Appling ER in reference to a female subject involved in an altercation. The female subject stated she had been in a fight at a club in Tattnall County. The subject was advised she would need to contact the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
February 1, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred on Orvin Road. The complainant stated taken from a shop was a Zebco Omega rod and reel valued at $135.00. Investigation continues.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Daisy Lane in reference to criminal damage to property. The complainant stated a family member spent the night at his residence and broke his Sony TV, a lamp, nightstand, DVR, and stole his driver’s license and tobacco. The complainant was advised of legal action that could be taken.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Fred Carter Road in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was left partially in the roadway, with no driver and was towed due to public safety.
Feb. 1, while a deputy was serving a warrant on a subject located on U.S. Highway 1 /Thomas Street, the subject had in his possession a controlled substance. Arrested was Jarod Kendrell Mumford, 29, of Baxley. Mumford was charged with VGCAS/methamphetamine.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone entered his home by opening a window and stole four firearms valued at approximately $4,000.00. Investigation continues.
