Baxley City Manager Jeff Baxley read a resolution in recognition of Councilman Eugene Walker, Jr. for his years of service to the city at the regular Baxley City Council meeting held June 29. Councilman Walker gave his resignation at the last meeting. Mayor Steve Rigdon announced that Councilman Walker was in the hospital due to illness and was unable to attend the recognition. He also added the council will present the resolution to him at another meeting. Council members gave favorable comments about serving with Walker. The council chamber meeting room was full of city employers and citizens who came to pay their respects in honor of Walker’s recognition.

Mayor Rigdon reported that Lt. Governor Casey Cagle spoke on the conditions of the state at the Georgia Municipal Association’s convention and was upbeat about the state’s economy.

Jeff Baxley announced that the council would be leaving next week for a redistricting meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday at approximately 3:00 p.m. and will finish up on Thursday around 12:00 noon.
The manager also reported that the dredging has begun at the Baxley Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The manager will be meeting with the contractor that is digging the well at the industrial park.
He reported on the GMA convention and stated that there was a bigger crowd this year.
The manager provided the council with a copy of the tax revenue report. He reported that the city is right on the mark where it should be compared to last year.
