According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach, a theft that was reported on December 18, 2015, on Poor Robin Road, led to an investigation and the arrest of Karlee Shane Lastinger, 23, of Baxley. Lastinger was charged with theft by taking and theft by deception.
Also a theft reported on December 19, 2015, that occurred on Phillipi Church Road, led to an investigation and the arrest of Crystal Charmaine Patchen, 35, of Baxley. Patchen was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by taking. A warrant has also been secured for the arrest of Jeremy Nail, 38, of Baxley, for theft by taking.
The following are additional incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department over the past few days.
On December 23, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report check/identity fraud. The complainant stated three checks that were not his, but had his name and information on them, were processed at a Bank of America. Kroger of Utah contacted him in reference to the returned checks. Investigation continues.
Dec. 23, answered a call to Beaver Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) gained entry to her residence and vandalized the inside of her home. Investigation continues.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated someone had broken into her storage unit. Nothing appeared to be missing at time of report.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Peach Lane in reference to speeding and spinning tires. Responding Officer located vehicles in which juveniles were driving. A vehicle was towed and a juvenile complaint was filed with Juvenile Justice.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Buckhead Road in reference to an unresponsive person. Eddie Perez, 27, was found by a family member unresponsive. Appling EMS responded and transported subject to Appling ER where he was pronounced deceased. The coroner was notified.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Moody Altman Road in reference to an unresponsive person. Family members found Mr. Billy Altman, 77, unresponsive and notified Appling EMS. Appling EMS transported Mr. Altman to Appling ER where he was pronounced deceased.
Dec. 25, answered a call to Central Street in reference to a domestic call, which led to the arrest of Oscar Montano, 28, of Baxley. Montano was charged with disorderly conduct.
Dec. 25, answered a call to South Main/Surrency in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone pried open the front door to his residence to gain entry. Nothing appeared to be missing at time of report. Investigation continues.
Dec. 26, answered a call to Red Dot Road in reference to a house fire. The Baxley Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire that appeared to have started from above the stove. Red Cross was notified to help victims.
Dec. 26, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report at theft that occurred on Fowler Road. The complainant stated his propane tank and regulator was stolen from his camper.
